I would presume that discount is offered on products/variants which are slow-moving. The FWD inventory must be piling higher than AWD.

AWDs are heavy on fuel. If you don't live in northern area and don't visit there regularly just buy the FWD, specially if you live in cites like Lahore, Karachi etc. You'd be wasting money on fuel and the car will feel heavier and under powered. Why compromise on fuel efficiency and performance if you don't really need AWD. You can't really take it for off roading any way because of the low ground clearance.

Although FWD offers bundled features but its not tha TOTL version so...

With the discount on FWD the price difference between AWD doesn’t justify the additional features.

The leather electric seats are an excellent feature not available as aftermarket accessory but still price differential too much.

with the same engine, transmission and Main shashkay (i.e. Panoramic Sunroof, all alloys, androids auto/carplay) are there so it’ll be virtually impossible to trace the difference from outside.

I was lucky to get the intro price of 5m for AWD at the current prices I might have been inclined to FWD - better value for money.

Wondering why most buyers are going for the AWD variant despite substantial price difference and not that much diff in features.
Also reportedly the fuel economy and even power is is slightly better in FWD. Also most users may not have the need for AWD in the places they live.

Is it just ‘Fully Loaded’ mentality or something else i missed?

When launched the price difference was 4 lacs.
FWD for 4.6m
AWD for 5m

The difference in features is
1. Leather seats
2. Front parking sensors
3. AWD
4. Power front seats
5. Power and smart tailgate
6. Full size spare with alloy wheel
7. There’s a slight difference in road clearance indicating a difference in suspension too

It made sense then. The AWD version has better traction and ride comfort too.

Now it seems FWD aren’t selling so the price increase has been reversed through a discount so the price difference has increased. Most AWD buyers either bought before price increase or before the discount was unofficially announced on FWD.

I think it’s buyers choice. For me it was simple although price was 5.5 mil i also wanted a complete package. My dad went for FWD. Recently my uncle bought FWD and he wanted top trim but he inclined toward price discount. Today if there is no discount i assure you people will buy AWD. And i think resale will be more for AWD for sure. Rest it’s always buyers discretion.

Yes.

Honda has been a major promoter for Sportage... Almost all Turbo buyers had a thought of buying Sportage after the 4.4m price, some were brave enough to opt for the change.

I can tell you based on first hand interaction with Civic Turbo buyers in 2019, they are regretting not taking the plunge.

Every car can be sold in the resale market, it's all a matter of price discount (difference between purchase price and resale price). The higher the discount, the poorer is the resale.
I don't think upon resale, the price difference between a used FWD and AWD models of the same year will be greater than 9 lacs (as it is currently).
By all likelihood, the price difference between them will be lower, which would mean that AWD will lose more value (price) upon selling than FWD from their respective current prices.

Also our buyers want cosmetic differences when they spend extra money like LED lights, diff alloys, diff grille, more chrome (lol) etc. But since there arent many, they wont spend that much extra.

My experience with Civics in the family suggests otherwise...

People tend to opt for top of the line “fully loaded” models.

I had the 9th gen UG model while father has the prosmatec (with navigation and fog lights from Honda) when we tried to sell both no body even wanted to look at the cheaper version despite its price and better condition.

Sportage maybe different as the cheaper version has a lot of bells and whistles. Also as it’s almost visibly the same so FWD may have better response.

2-3 years will reveal how this turns out..
