That's because the price difference between the two was not likely that high. Any sane buyer would add in 1 or 2 lacs more to get the fully loaded one. However if that same difference in offer price was above 5 lacs lets say, pretty sure that lower model would have more demand. As I said, it's always a function of offer price. As you lower the price, you would see a big jump in demand.

Contrary to price difference between 9th gen Civic models, 9 lacs difference between the two Sportage versions is just too big and in all likelihood, resale of used models of both after some years would mean more loss in AWD as compared to FWD.

I had the 9th gen UG model while father has the prosmatec (with navigation and fog lights from Honda) when we tried to sell both no body even wanted to look at the cheaper version despite its price and better condition.

What do you mean by UG model? And Prosmetic just means its automatic. Oriel is top of the line, you can buy base model in Prosmetic as well. So what I understand is your model was a manual transmission, that would explain the lack of public interest as people no longer want to drive manuals, especially when they are spending more money for bigger car. You can't even buy new Civic in manual anymore.

There was once a time not long ago when mechanics drove people away from auto tranny but now it’s a different era.
I can understand what most people think of AWD price and this issue is only there because KIA is giving discounts. If there is no discount FWD will not sell as it is NOT these days hence DISCOUNT.

UG is Prosmatec (auto) Oriel with leather seats and Utility Package

Prosmatec alone was auto without sunroof, alloys etc.

Price difference was around 2lacs representing 10% of value of each car.

Normal pricing difference of Sportage is also around 10% so it’s comparable.

The discount being offered on one variant alone (FWD) is creating the disparity and obviously that’s due to FWD not selling as expected. Otherwise the discount would’ve been offered on AWD.
