Sportage isn't a terrible vehicle. Very decent ride.

It's some over the top claims by some which lead to their criticism. Like, blaming Toyota and suggesting they set up an accident of Sportage. WTH? Sportage can't break down? In terms of reliability it's no Toyota. And Toyota would never set up things.

Then some give an impression it's a luxury SUV and justify every wrong action like much higher than market parts and service prices. Because they think it's a premium car.

It's a tactic to loot customers in that 4 year warranty. Honda's, Toyotas and Suzukis are much cheaper to maintain.

One can buy and should enjoy the ride but do keep realities in mind, awam thinks they just bought a premium rugged SUV that's beyond any criticism and fault.

Price escalation by Toyota, Honda or Suzuki devoid of any clear logic and reason, is something not to be appreciated. It's a rip off. But how is it related to the discussion here?

Please recall in early 2000s Sportage was launched with almost the same fanfare and hype. Search Pakwheels for used cars from 2002-04 and see what people are demanding for it now. Even then resale value is very poor and it takes a considerable time. And please also see the miserable condition of these cars due to lack of after sales service support and parts sourcing.

You have seen the price list of replacement parts of your new Sportage, issued by KLM. If I were in your place I would have had hard time getting a sound sleep.

Lucky is a big and stable group so i am not having doubts on KIA's future this time in Pakistan....and the reception of its vehicles is also very good, so yeah this time it is not the same as before....

I haven't seen a word yet from a single owner here in this discussion....Can someone please jump in to give some insight?

Clearly it seems to me that people still are stuck in T-H-S....as far as parts are concerned, Honda Civic parts are also very expensive and using after market parts also voids its warranty, so this is just not KiA, everyone is doing that....those who are buying such expensive vehicles are aware of its running expenses...So it all comes to same point of mine, no regulation so everyone is trying to make as much profit as they can....KLM is no saint but Indus, Atlas aren't either....

Also it is not logical and fair to compare a 1 year old entrant with those who are here for decades....

Since Kia Sportage is so expensive and all the negativity web around it....if someone wants to switch from usual sedans and cannot afford to buy Fortuner (which i think is a total rip off at above 8 million), what shall he choose?

Don’t understand the fuzz here costumer spending 5 mil of course would make informed decision he would know about after sales parts and all that stuff being expensive than other options available in market.

Yes Sportage was a failure back in 2000 but the market dynamics were way different back then my family didn’t have single car back then but now we have 3, Suzuki Khyber was a market beater back then, Now the dynamics are totally changed people have more affordability, Public has already accepted the factors that have been spoken against Sportage or Tuscan for that matter every 2nd or 3rd car on the kHi road is imported one and they come with all the problems associated with KIA but consumers are open to it now than ever before....

There is a market for mid SUV or compact SUV in Pakistan very soon Toyota will come up with crossover Honda will have to catchup as well...

People (even with means) had limited options in local Pakistani market, that's the real reason behind excitement and warm welcome of Sportage and Tucson. Let people celebrate, this is best they can get in local market. Rest be it KLM or HNM, they will surely make holes in pockets of its customer, typical Pakistani Seth mentality. But those who are spending 5+ Mill, I am sure had given all aspects a thought. It's not easy to spend (for most) such sum without due consideration. Sportage & Tucson are surely no premium vehicles, but here in Pakistan - These are only choices in their segment.

Now coming to Quality or ranking - Those who live or spend sometime in ME, or other countries, are well aware that Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage are considered budget options abroad, SUV market in this particular segment (not in general) is ruled by CR-V, CX5 and RAV-4. About reliability - Hyundai and KIA may beat Honda & Toyota some day, but that day has yet to come.

Well, IMO, I think if one can afford a premium car, then it does not mean that its parts, services, etc. are also premium and expensive.

Like, would oil filter be worth Rs. 10,000? What is so premium, and special about it? Is it Gold Plated? (Its a very very common part and is to be disposed OFF after xyz Kms / months)

And comparing services / service charges of KIA, Hyundai, etc. with Audi, BMW, etc. also does not make any sense to me.

Irrespective a car costs 20 lac PKR, or 20 million PKR, the prices of normal routine parts, like filters, plugs, lubes, etc. need to be reasonably priced, and easily available.

Then, body parts, panels, etc. also need to be available.

If dealerships say that part will be imported within a month or 2, then used JDMs VS PKDM, locally assembled cars mein faraq kia reh jata hai? (Because JDM parts can also be sourced in a month or 02, and will come at very reasonable prices, compared to locally assembled cars).

As far as service charges / labour is concerned, then YES, its rates can vary depending on quality of service, however, it does not mean that they can charge what ever they want!

If I own an an old model, luxury and comfortable vehicle, then it does not mean that I also have to pay huge amounts for service.

IMO, if local car assemblers are unable to do localization of important parts, then there seems no fun in assembling cars here. Then why not directly import from abroad?

Making sub-standard (when compared to International counterparts) local oil filters, plastic parts, dashboard plastic, etc., with strange panel gaps, fit and finish issues, poor QA/QC is no localization IMO. Its extortion of money from pockets of general public, in the name of "premium" brands.
