Torture on KKH continued until I reached jaglot. Very refreshing change... nanga parbat was gracing the windscreen of basanti with full glory. Something I had never noticed during my past trips....may be due to my return timings that were always late in the afternoon. This time it was morning.

I could not stop myself from jumping out of the car several times......at every turn Nanga Parbat was revealing her different face

"poondi" of nanga parbat continued. At the same time, I wanted to reach Chilas asap for early lunch..... naashta jo miss keya tha hunza maen.

another turn on the KKH and another "exposing" sight of nanga parbat. Stepped out of the car and another click click of the shutter.

There was a police patrol there. One said "bhai tum iss key bohat tusveerayn khaynch ruhay ho".

police wala bohat he budzoak tha....ous ko keya pata nanga parbat pur churnay kay chukar maen bohat say goray mur gayay. Mayray maen na to itni jaan hae or na he mayrey pocket itni deep hae kay maen iss pur chur sukoon. to phir dil pashoorey kurnay may kya hurj hae!

One turn after Thaleichi and honeymoon with nanga parbat was over. I was again driving on the worst patch of KKH with trucks moving slowly and steadily

A stunning view of raikot bridge over indus river. dirt track on the extreme left of the picture is the way to tattoo pind that will ultimately lead to fairy meadows. A film started rewinding in my mind and stopped at track 1997.

I had walked down from this track with my toes badly irritated owing to long walk down from fairy meadows. When I reached raikot, a baba jee (watchman at raikot bridge) nay mujhay nuseehat key that I should have taken the pain in the way of Allah. Then he asked me if I go to raiwind ijteema that is near Lahore. I was feeling so ashamed when he said he saves Rs. 150 every month to go to raiwind every year just because he don't afford going to Mecca

Waited for two hours and at last saw a van bound for glgit. there was no seat vacant. layhaza hum wagon ke chutt pur bayth kur gilgit pohanchay. Rushed to a clinic. After dressing of my toes and after eating "kurahi murgha", advices of baba jee disappeared from mind.

Those advices knocked my mind again in the year 2002 and within 15 days I was in Allah kay garh for Umra. Alhumdulilah

I started this thread at 11.00 Pm and its 3.10 am ....almost 4 hours at a stretch.....Once I started ,could not stop till end..wonderful trip and great narration....A very inspiring and tempting thread ....

I did not turn on the AC as busuntee was driving in first gear for long on bad road and I did not want to turn her on. Phir maen iss ko kaysay thunda kurta.... aye tay kulay bunday da kum nuhee;)

Placed my wrist watch on the dashboard with barometer function on. After ten minutes, watch was showing temperature of 42C....omg!

Stopped the car and took off "bounyan", replaced the shoes with "qaynchi chappal".

I started feeling much better.

Another dumping site of "lukar chor" mafia. We are deforesting consistently and repeatedly complaining about Allah ka uzaab when floods hit us.

Uzaab keyon naa ho. We have forgotten the message of RasoolUllah SAW

"tumharay haath maen poda ho aur tum daykhow kay qiaamat waaqaya ho ruhee hay to phir bhee tum wo poda zameen may laga do" (Allah mujhay maaf kuray agar koye lufz aagay ya peechay ho gaya ho).

And at last reached Chilas at 11:50am...stopped at an only acceptable restaurant where natco buses stop. A waiter came out and requested me to park the car at a safe place on the side..... a caravan of buses and vans is supposed to stop here in the next 30 minutes or so "chupkay say wayranay maen jaysay bahar aa gaayay"

Stepped in the restaurant and asked for the menu. Waiter said "gobi, chollay, bhoona wuda gosht orr sada chawal.

Jao sada chawal pur chollay daal kay ley aaow aek thundi botul kay saath.

He came back with a small plate of chawal with two "teaspoon full" of chunnay; perhaps chunnay were supposed to act as a digestive medicine Never mind, I have to travel all day today and all day until mid night tomorrow for home and it is better to eat light.

Later I have to pay Rs. 150 for this five star meal at a five star restaurant....its not value for money. I don't mind paying Rs.1,000 for a small serving meal at a 5 star hotel as they have to cover their huge overheads. After first night camping at Duikar upper hunza, the bill was just Rs. 600 that covered Rs. 200 camping fee for a night, half chicken karahi, chai paratha breakfast, mixed vegetable lunch and 4 cups of chai. I paid him extra Rs. 400 as his prices were very reasonable. How can a small plate of sada chawal with two teaspoon full of chunnay justify a price tag of Rs. 150 when last Sunday I and my friend paid Rs. 240 to a famous chunnay wala at temple road lahore for two plate unda chunnay, special kulchhay and two big glasses of "meethi lassi".

I think truck dhabbay are also ripping us. When I am out of town for pleasure, I prefer these truck dhabbay for meals. Here I feel the "change" and for me change may bohat muza hae. "Muzaydar daal maash" is also a hype created by many people....taste is just Ok. This year, we had lunch at these two truck dhabbas; one is near chichawatni after returning back from a trip to Cholistan desert and the other truck dhabba was on main road between Kallar Kahar and choasaiden shah after our trip to Soan valley. At both the places we (2 heads) paid about Rs. 350 for a plate of chicken shorba and daal maash. I don't think truck drivers and cleaners pay this price. These dhabbas are just looting the tourists...be careful

paid the bill and went to a side mosque for zohar prayer. After the prayer I noticed the caravan was there....and restaurant was ready to loot the passengers.

Time to resume my journey. Asked a wagon driver about the time I should expect to reach Besham....it was 1pm. He said "8pm.... chulayn hum aap kay peechay aa ruhay haen.

8pm? Oh!...so I have to drive for two hours in the dark. No....I decided to have a stopover at Dassu

Dassu was 123km but there were a number of straight patches of KKH here. Basanti started gliding in the 4th gear. I turned on AC thinking that yay guram nuhey ho ge!
