I started this thread at 11.00 Pm and its 3.10 am ....almost 4 hours at a stretch.....Once I started ,could not stop till end..wonderful trip and great narration....A very inspiring and tempting thread ....

and at last I stopped at this hotel located just before Dassu town...away from hustle bustle. It was just 3:40pm... more than 2 hours left before sunset. As wagon driver at Chilas had said that Besham is reachable by 8 at night, I reaffirmed my decision to stay at Dassu. Next day when I reached Besham, I realized that I could make it to Besham before sunset yesterday.....wagon driver was wrong.

But my decision of staying at Dassu was fruitful...peaceful place...besides Indus river

My room was on the back of the hotel with a main terrace facing Indus. Had a quick bath and seated myself on the terrace and remained there until maghrib prayer

I am still enjoying..... I am not returning from the trip; in fact trip is still going on and on and on..........

So you are Indus... duraya e sindh....?

I started wispering with the Indus....one of the longest rivers in the world and backbone of Pakistan's agriculture sector. I have been driving parallel to this river on KKH for loooong hours for days...yet it was far and deep down...

Now it is flowing just 15 feet below my place..... here it is narrow yet powerful.... it has crafted indus valley, shaped the mountains and even National Geographic's documentary on Nanga Parbat claims that Nanga Parbat is still rising and that one of the factors is the indus river exerting pressure...

After offering ishha prayer, i prepared ghuttala of noodles and precooked pepper chicken....accidently this experiment proved delicious. Food is not available in the hotel.

Stepped out of the room but can't see indus....raat maen is ka shor bohat uchha lug lug raha tha. I jumped into the bed and started enjoying the shor of indus banging the rocks and adjoining mountains.

Finally I was sleeping peacefully in the middle of roaring indus

During the day I was happy soul...roaming around. At night, I did feel lonely but I had a solution...I used to sleep after ishha prayer.

Coming up - last day of the trip.

Next morning, I had lost all interest in driving just after 4 hours of keeping my foot on the accelerator. I still don't know what had happened to me. I was on the road for 20 hours during the first day.... had reached Chilas from Lahore.....

Shaaed may rugged KKH ka aadi ho gaya tha or ub subza mujhay raas nuhee aa ruha tha

paid the bill and went to a side mosque for zohar prayer. After the prayer I noticed the caravan was there....and restaurant was ready to loot the passengers.

Time to resume my journey. Asked a wagon driver about the time I should expect to reach Besham....it was 1pm. He said "8pm.... chulayn hum aap kay peechay aa ruhay haen.

8pm? Oh!...so I have to drive for two hours in the dark. No....I decided to have a stopover at Dassu

Hmmm...niCe yeah in trips we get tired also in day time soo sleeping early is a wise decision at night..next morning wokeup hash bashash..

Corolla does not heat up. Not even at >50 deg. C stationary in a traffic block. But It has to be adequately maintained.

Bhai jan, you have the first hand knowledge of the road condition to Hunza. I travelled back in 1999 upto Khunjerab top on by "baheshti" Potohar. This was an awesome journey of five days. On return I came non-stop from Gilgit to Lahore in about 24 hours. But those were the days when I was young. I need your help in making a decision. I have a choice between a 4x4 and a Corolla. I prefer to travel to Hunza on Corolla due to it being more comfortable, yet I am worried about road condition as well. Bad roads/under construction roads are not a problem but I have a specific question i.e., is there any patch on this route where Corolla may bottom its floor or hit the under-carriage. On bad roads one can drive slow to avoid damage to the car but sometimes you cannot avoid damage to the car where high ground clearance is required. Second question is; can I do this tour in 4 days?

Placed my wrist watch on the dashboard with barometer function on. After ten minutes, watch was showing temperature of 42C....omg!

Stopped the car and took off "bounyan", replaced the shoes with "qaynchi chappal".

I started feeling much better.
