Late Oil Changes?

I have not been on PW for a while, have been busy with lot of things.

However, as you know, these are times of economic stress and this recession has spared nobody and no sector. So I was just wondering, what would be the effect on my car if I change the engine oil a little late? The car is a 2003 Civic Vti A/T with 108k km (petrol). I have always changed the oil (Honda Motor Oil) and filter @ 3000-3500km, though I was wondering what the full limit capacity is of this oil for this car.

What will be the effect if I drive the car 5000km or 7000km on such oil? Will it destroy performance, or will it destroy the engine, or no effect? Would you suggest changing it as late as 6-7000 km? (Honda Motor Oil, mineral)

Even u used to change it late before.
Perfect timing is after 2000km
It's just like if u don't eat food u will keep loosing weight and u will not be able to run, and after a time u cant even walk.

Even at 3000km the oil is still quite clear and not black at all...its also at full level and the car performs wonderfully?

Well, what I do is start checking the oil after 3000 kilometers, when it starts to black out, and i let it run like 200 kms more and change it. The interval differs usually, some times its changed around 4000 to 4500 kms, sometimes even 3500 kms.. I just don't change when it has run 3000 kms, I check the oil.. and if it needs to be changed, I would.. The car is a suzuki mehran, about 90,000 kilometers on the engine and its still running good. So this method of mine hasn't damaged anything or it would have been a OIL BURNER / BLOWER by now

Some brands recommend 2500 like shell red and other brands recommend 4000 like shell yellow. Well if ur car goes to 5000, there isn't any problem but try to change it as it hits 3500......

As @syncview said, changing oil color to black. New engine wont change color to black even if u drive 10K but oil need to be changed due to different factors. Change in color (it has taken enough debris from the engine), change in viscosity which should also b considered as more viscous oil and more thin oil, both wud lead to engine heat up and problems.

ive seen people hitting even 9K but surely that is not at all recommended...... By the for how much u get Honda Genuine 4ltr oil? Does anybody knows the cost in Pakistan cuz im planning to check Honda Genuine next time. Presently im using Havoline

You can abuse your car till as much as 10000 km. It'll ruin the drive and all but it'll continue running, it will be torture on the engine but it'll run.

Though i think the car shouldn't run for more than 4000 km without an oil change.

well i have a honda civic 2005 vti orial prosmatic. I always go to Honda for servicing. They recommend changing of oil at 5000km (honda oil) . If you dont push the car by driving between 2k to 3k rpm you can change it at 6000km

well one of my friend told me story of his Vti it was manual and 05 model.
they sold out other cars and were waiting for replacement and only civic was being use he says that unintentionally they drove it for +20k without oil change.

coming to my experiences.

my corolla gets oil change a 4000 and if some unplanned out of city trips are done then 5000. but ideally its 4000 thats waht my brain tells me.

and the most EXCELLENT way to waste money at car is to get oil changed at 2500 LOL.

well my daily use car has done more then 15k without oil change its bad for engine but its still running.

Take it easy dude.

As far as you are using Honda original Oil which has the API rating os SL dont worry. Change after 5000 Km. Any erlier than that and it will be wasting money. But, make sure that U buy the Oil and filter from Authorised Honda Dealer.

In Pakistan we victims of early oil change histirea, If you go thru the manual of Toyota Corolla Petrol it clearly says that if ur using oil API/SL or above, change Oil and Oil filter elemnt after 10,000Km, yes ten thousand Kilometers. U can check that.

Changing Oil at 5000 Km is fine. Take it easy and Chill out.

Honda genuine oil filter(LK10) : Rs 600

1 have 3 cars at home

gli 07...change after 5000km...even some time 200 km goes high from toyota motors

it has done 24,000 km up to know and my friends know how still it performs

5000km normal change...its engine has build almost 6 years back...and i have been doing stage and every stuff.....never complain frome engine

even today i cheaked it has 4800km done...and some oil leaked cuz of seal got damaged...yet it is perfect and running fine

what i see ppl...dont cheak battery,radiator water,and oil level...on regular basis which results in engine failurs

with honda oil you can strech up to 5000Km after that do change especialy in summer's of pakistan.

Well For a petrol car 3000km and for Desiel cars 2000km
i have one 2.0d saloon 2005 & Vti Prosmatic 2005
100,000km is done for corolla & 80,000 km for honda
Honda is perfect car in driving/ comfort/ power.
Corolla is tough and used for going to villages
i used my Honda within the city and i used corolla every where except mountains

Well its safe to change oil at 4000KM most of the modern car oils with latest ratings can be easily used for 5000km.

I wonder whichoil they use in cities like Dubai i rem our company car use to go for maintainance once a month and than there oil was changed monthly running was close to 8 to 10 thousand km or even more still the cars were in top condition.
