Mercedez Never took any car maker seriously, they just always laughed at Cadillacs, Jaguars, BMWs, etc. and never even thought in their wildest imagination that a Japanese car maker will come from Behind and Beat them in their own game.

The executives at DhaimlerChrysler have admitted recently that Lexus is a real Competition to its Mercedez Benz line up. The only serious competitor that has made Mercedez people think twice about their future strategies, this is one of the reason why Mercedez Merged with an otherwise third class automaker like Chrysler. Mercedez DID it to gain a strong entry in the US market, a very important Luxury car market. So, far, Lexus has been a source of major headache for Mercedez people and continue to be, as Lexus sales are continuing to rise in US. It has beaten Mercedez in terms of Most Reliable and least problematic car in all the categories.

Looking at just how shortly this car maker Lexus, a luxury brand of Toyota has come in just 16 years or so, is really impressive.

Longer is definately Better.
The longer the wheelbase (distance between the center of front wheels and center of rear wheels), the more comfortable the ride.

Alhamdulillah have owned 3 of these LS400's and yes while they're great in terms of comfort etc, their parts are way too expensive. and when I had finally made up my mind that mercedes was too troublesome to keep up with, lexus started with it's own problems. The most troublefree were the first gen 90-94 models, ls430 has loads of it's own issues.
Bottom line, in the US the car itself is one issue, the service dept. and their courteous behavior is another which is a bigger factor for buyers.
Having dealt with both mercedes and lexus service center, I can tell you that lexus had great service from its launch in 90 till 99, but from 2000 on their service depts have started to go down the drain. while mercedes has upped it's service from what it used to be in the 90's.
so based upon the service and also the build quality, I vote for mercedes any day anytime over lexus.
as for bmw, great sports sedan, but read their customer service reviews and they're way in the bottom alongside gm. not good for post sales issues !

See, lexus is a follower of the trends mercedes sets. they're not leaders in the market, yet.

well i dont think mercs are setting any trends any more coz lexus for the past 10 years has become the no1 brand in the states which is the biggest market for mercedes they need to do something to improve and bring back the standards which they use to set of old.

lexus "used to be" no.1 only in service from 90 when they started till 99. no more.
other than they they never really had any other outstanding acheivements other than copying mercedes to a great extent using japanese parts
take my words, i've owned both. lexus is a souped up toyota camry at the end of the day. nothing u can compare mercedes or bmw with.

well recently when i visted the bushland ppl are having a kind of shift coz like i agree mercedes is mercedes its a status symbol but in the quality dept they are going down and have u seen the upcoming shape of the s-class all of the grace and elegance is gone i posted the pics have u seen them ?.check the link a beamer interior and a maybac back side :(.

it is the most quitest car in the world, simply amazing. Just imagine in just over 15 years they have caught up and surpassed luxury car makers 100 years old.
