When more than 10 companies will blend the same product, then ofcoarse the rise of competition would be there.
Some companies use anti wear additives like MoS2 as marketing strategies and some companies use PAO as marketing strategies etc. etc.
YouTube Channel Project Farm has multiple time tested the samples of these oils and checked in lab.
The oils which has slightly more detergents they have slightly less anti-wear additives.
Some oils who are rich in anti-wear additives they have slightly less detergents.
Etc. etc.
Some oils will have more Barium but less Phosphorus.
Some oils will have more zinc but less Boron
Some oils will have more MOS2 but less Magnesium.
And list goes on.
At the end, if Shellâs oil has got 99 number out of 100, then total will have 98.9, Mobil will have 99.1, Caltex will have 98.95 etc. (Comparing the specs of same viscosity).
But as we sum-up all the additives, then the equation seems balanced. Because more than base oils, these additives are way more expensive.
Recently I met with a guy who worked in Qalco Qatar for 25 years and drove Land Cruiser daily for his work and proudly says he was using 20w-60 in his jeep while OEM has recommended to use 5w-30
I told him that itâs a direct mistake and his jaws drops till knees after 5 minutes chats when he actually realizes that itâs a mistake to use such motor oil in Gulf Countries.
