Yes. Rightly said and fully agreed! 
I also thought that racing engines always require quite thick engine oils (irrespective of clearances, new Vs old tech. etc.), but now, I think I know nothing about the most recent racing engines and the tech. Involved, which require 0w2 or 0w5 engine oils.
The most recent and thinnest engine oil grade, which I have seen written in owners / users manuals, and for passenger cars, is 0w-16, which is being recommended by Toyota, in some of their vehicles (mostly hybrid, or in newer engines, having tight clearances). But this 0w2 and 0w5, and in racing engines, its totally baffling for me!
