How is the 10w30 oil "Bad" as compared to 5w30 in winters?

Just make sure the oil is bought from reputed dealer.

It’s not going to ruin your engine at the temp ranges we get in winters (unless in skardu/swat) but 5w just is easier to start and widely available. So why go for a limited temp range when 5w is also available at the same price mostly.

But there are some 10w30 like Mobil which has a lower MRV than their 5w30.

Aoa i have Toyota fielder automatic ODO 250k km
Mechanic suggested my father to use 20w50 as car engine was old and my father did started to use it
Now when i started to drive car i learnt that 20w50 is used for almost dead engines with problems
Now I'm thinking from changing to zic 10w40 synthetic
My car so far doesn't have any engines problem as much as i know
According to my father he has only used 20w50 only 4 to 5 times changing it timely and was using zic (grade not known) before
Should i stick to 20w50 or try to change it zic 10w40 and if should change what should be the intervals of next oil change and any other things which i should know

Please change your mechanic first then lower oil viscosity to 10w40 then 10w30. Use good quality oil then you are good for 5,000kms

20w50 is a good engine killer. Not sure how much damage has already been done..

But you should not use above 5w30 grade fully synthetic engine oil.

No need to go for weird odd viscosities like 10w40, what’s the point? Give your car the best oil that works across all the conditions specially at cold start so don’t use a high cold rating (10w is bad on engines in cold weather when starting car, while 5w works fine across all temp ranges).

Max you should go is 5w40.

Well i saw a video where mechanic suggested if using 20w50 then change to 10w40 and then gradually go down on grades till oil starts to decrease

That's what I was trying to say. 5W-30 is your limit or 0W-20 if it's hybrid. As you go down on grades, keep checking oil level.

No need for that.

Start 5w30/0w20.

If you notice significant oil burn then try 5w40. If it burns on that too then it will burn no matter what oil you use.

In that case keep topping up oil after 1500km - 2000km in small amounts.

Which oil grade you think will work best for Lahore climate?? where it can get as hot as 45c and as cold as 5c, also most of my drives are highway

Sounds perfect for 0w20.

5w30 if you want a bit more thicker oil.

All temp ranges covered.

On 40000 i only changed oil
On 80000 i changed oil and filter as well
From a local mechanic
Dealership was not changing filter

If you want to avoid risks (if any) switch to 5w30 and observe the oil dipstick frequently. After 1 or 2 oil changes 0w20 would be fine.

Can anyone guide me which engine and gear oil grades are best suited for United Bravo 2020 model. I used Zic engine oil recently but it didnt go as efficient as expected. The oil deterioted after 800km drive.
