Yes it is
if your new banger is a cheaply made 4 cyl for a cheap econobox car - there is no measurement of feel on it.
And the manufacturer will have to be incredibly stupid to specify a boutique sourced ultra superior fancy engine lube oil for their cheap econo car. Like your average corolla, civic etc. etc. The manufacturer claims can be cross checked by doing some leg work yourself or paying for an oil analysis
e.g. new corollas run perfectly fine for 15000 kms on cheapo API SN 0w20 oil anyday in any weather. Why should one buy spendy oil on a car that is a literal donkeycart globally.
I can see someone buying a very high HTHS and low NOACK, very stout oil on a TGDI engine that is tracked a lot or runs under extreme stress (brutal high accelerations etc) But for a daily worker like a corolla/mehran/cd70 LOL... (read my post of burning cash)
I have seen people buy synthetics in frigid areas, e.g. our member @2c lives in Edmonton, its so cold there that polar bears find it cold. - All lubes in the cars there are full synthetic (even transmission as the oil literally gels up)
