When buying a product or even getting a service - Its completely perfectly sensible to ask for a standardization rather than just take the word at face value.

e.g. lets assume we are installing a fiber optic line terminating at any given DMARC. Your installing tech can just eyeball the cable, blow air from his mouth on it and say its perfect.

OR

your tech can a proper RFC test and make sure that there are no frame losses and good signalling coming through after using proper cleaning equipment on the ends.

Just like I would hire an A/C tech who knows refrigeration to work on my HVAC equipment - rather than moron off the street who says hes the best - but doesnt own vacuum pump, scales, recovery unit or thermocouplers

just like @VCheng said - I would rather have my doctor with a proper MD degree rather than neem hakeem.

But - its also perfectly normal to not choose such.

For vehicles that use 10W40, it can be a choice, sure. API certification is an asset for assuring quality if the product in the container is genuine.

There is no API roundel on this one, hence this oil is NOT API certified.

Yes a lot of reports from my fellow customer fleets have reported the fake AMSOIL in the market from where they had purchased and suffered.
I dont trust no one in the market specially for lubes until I had 1000% confirmation that product is imported through proper channel.
In last few months lots and lots of lubricants were proved fake due to their bar code was not matching from their respective OEM manufacturers.
And that's alarming

only a handful of their products are API certed - as they were getting hit really hard and losing customers over this.

Any third party cert or standardization is almost mandatory for quality control - otherwise the product can be.

Incorrect. All individual containers for retail sale have the API roundel if certified and genuine.

I was also looking for the seal of API, but could not find it, however, I got some information regarding multiple references to API in the product data bulletin documents of some of its products (I do not know that whether it justifies that they are API certified or not, however, if some member here can post pics of any Amsoil engine oil bottle from front and back, it would make things more clear):

If the oil meets all OEM specifications and it is API certified, it is okay to use for the specified intervals.

(None of the links you referenced show the API roundel. "Licensed" does NOT mean "certified".)

Issue is, people do not bother to go in to the details. They just rush by looking at the physical appearance and appealing looks of the things, and get their engines ruined and damaged, and when they rush to claim the damages and warranties, engine oil companies will not take responsibility. Its also the duty to general public, to do some homework, instead of falling prey to such marketing gimmicks, traps, etc.

Amsoil is also not wrong in their place. It is clearly mentioning to only drag up to 12,000 miles, or 25,000 miles, if mentioned in the owners / users manuals, and as per my limited knowledge, I have not come across any passenger vehicle manufacturer, which recommends drain intervals of 12,000-25,000 miles, or 01 year, or 700 hours of continuous operation (whichever comes first), despite having may be larger oil sumps (Yes, they have mentioned to observe engine oil level regularly, and top up when reqd.).
