My UPS battery is not holding voltage. Drop to around 12 the local design start charging. This seems normal but what happens next is strange. The charging gets completed in just few seconds. The voltage jumps from 12 to 14.2 in few seconds and then charge completes.

What can I do to recover the battery health?

I don’t know how old are these batteries but seems like they have outlived her useful life or most likely damaged because of very high charging rate current as symptoms just points towards the same cause.

Battery was purchased in start of summer. Charging rate is not high. Max 15amps.

It seems that it has increased its internal resistance and on charging the voltage jumps by 2 volts.

I would like to flush out the mixture if i get hold of a good quality electrolyte.

Charging to 15volts once will help or not?

I parches AGS battery GX-165 125A/h my UPS is homage neon 1003, 700w, i select the charging current 15A, when battery full charged the voltages on battery terminals are
13.83v DC. it is normal charge state of new battery?

13.83 Volts is ok, 15 amperes of charging to start with is little high, try to select 10 ampere option if it has and rest i hope you have used a good quality electrolyte because a lot depends upon it.

Just note that charging current rate is taken 1/10 of battery Ampere Hour rating.

So umm i have a lead-acid wet battery OSAKA its a 130 A.H battery being used on a UPS. Its performing good but the thing i noticed is no matter how much i charge it - 1 hour, 2 hour, even 4 hours - it doesn't cross 13.8 volts. Instead it keeps getting hotter and hotter. I checked the gravity with a gravity meter and all the cells are almost in green area. Although the water reduction in all the six cells is not equal. Some cells reduce water a bit earlier than the others. I recently have flushed the battery - before it was giving not even an hour with 1 fan and 1 energy saver and after the flush it started giving 1 hour with 3 fans without a hiccup. I used pyro electrolyte and pyro distilled water.
So this is the complete history of the battery. What do you think is causing the battery to not cross over 13.8 volts. @talhawaleed @ishtiaq778 please help.

The charges battery should voltage at 13.2 vdc. It seems you are charging the batteries at higher current rate. It should be 1/10th of battery rating. The evaporation of electrolyte seems to higher. This occurs due to load on battery and charging rate. The battery should give two years service at optimum conditions. Any how it should be 1.5 years at least. AGS batteries have good service life.

Ishtiaq778 my local made 500watt UPS is having a problem that it is not shifting itself to wapda mains which causes it to run even when mains are active but it doesnot switch back to wapda

Kindly check the mains a.c. relay as it may be out of order.

Hi. I am using narada 150AH gel battery. . .Today I want to check its backup time using 4 ceiling fans.. load is 25 amp.. how much backup should it give..
Please reply with your experiences

About 4.5 hours approximately. The load of 25A seems quite high. You need to check again your calculations. You have not given details of your UPS. Ordinarily modified sine wave have less output current. How many batteries are attached to UPS? Please verify.

Only one battery and 600watt ups..load is 4 fans only

So there I was right the load is certainly less than 25A.

Your UPS has output of 600W and surely heatup when you drive it at 1000W (4?250w). Intermittant break-down can occur due to heat or fuse. Here battery is not issue. The UPS has lower charging rate and output. The battery is not being charged to full capacity.
So there is UPS to Battery mismatch.

I hope you understand the explained reasons. You can go for 1000 or 1500 W UPS for the same battery.

One ceiling fan is 80w to 120W max. When one Ceiling fan is on, it draws , approximately 10 to 12A from Battery. 4 Ceiling fan will draw, 40 to 45 A from battery......you got 2 hours and 15 min back up time from your battery. It means your battery capacity is remains 90A rather than 150 Ah.............

4 Ceiling fans = 400Watts and your UPS is of 600W so no issue is with the battery...not with UPS.........How old is your battery? what kind of UPS are you using? can you upload the pic of UPS?nawan885
