Ishtiaq778 my local made 500watt UPS is having a problem that it is not shifting itself to wapda mains which causes it to run even when mains are active but it doesnot switch back to wapda

Please check the mains relay which could be out of order. Replace it and it should resolve the problem.

4 Ceiling fans = 400Watts and your UPS is of 600W so no issue is with the battery...not with UPS.........How old is your battery? what kind of UPS are you using? can you upload the pic of UPS?nawan885

Local made ceiling fans consume more current and certainly are higher than 100W. To be sure rest with clamp meter.

And during charging UPS use 5 ampere while on 10Amp setting.. it takes 3-4 hours for charging till 13.3 V.. I stopped drainage of batery at 10.8 v.. in usual ups continues drainage of battery till 10.2 v

You are using ac clamp meter not a pure dc one....or ur clamp meter is not off good quality....for four ceiling fans it should drain above 35 A

Local made ceiling fans consume more current and certainly are higher than 100W. To be sure rest with clamp meter.

I never saw any ceiling fan of 250 watt wether local or chines.......once i saw a 150 watt ...very old fan with big motor.....

So umm i have a lead-acid wet battery OSAKA its a 130 A.H battery being used on a UPS. Its performing good but the thing i noticed is no matter how much i charge it - 1 hour, 2 hour, even 4 hours - it doesn't cross 13.8 volts. Instead it keeps getting hotter and hotter. I checked the gravity with a gravity meter and all the cells are almost in green area. Although the water reduction in all the six cells is not equal. Some cells reduce water a bit earlier than the others. I recently have flushed the battery - before it was giving not even an hour with 1 fan and 1 energy saver and after the flush it started giving 1 hour with 3 fans without a hiccup. I used pyro electrolyte and pyro distilled water.
So this is the complete history of the battery. What do you think is causing the battery to not cross over 13.8 volts. @talhawaleed @Ishtiaq778 please help.

By default, you need to verify the cut off Voltage and charging rate, since your UPS is a local one so its not hard to pin point the problem area.

Obviously, if your UPS keeps on charging the batteries all the time and voltage does not crosses 13.8 Volts then you won?t be able to verify the cut off Voltage.

Have you ever tried to drive up hill on road covered with slight snow, I hope, you must have noticed that if speed is slow then car does not climbs up and slips. Destination maybe set to 6000ft (14.2 Volts) but since speed slow to 10km/hr (0-1 amperes), car does not climbs up and your tires do slip and maybe gets heated up as well (Electrolyte heat up).

Try to increase the last stage charging rate (maybe to 3 amperes) and try to see if your vehicle makes to to the cutoff altitude(6000ft or for your understanding to 14.0 V to 14.4Volts to whatever its set). That way, it won?t spoil your tires (Electrolyte heat up).

Remember that we don?t want to climb up at 100km/hr as your vehicle is only a 800c.c car. By saying so, we have limits and we are not allowed to drive fast enough especially at last stage.

Charged batteries should show between 13.2 ~ 14. Most charged batteries do not show beyond 13.2 vdc. So it should be OK.

This is a very good thread you have made, can you please guide me on few things

My latest AGS 130AH battery has gone dead very quickly
I bough it with my new Aurora UPS (chinese) hoping that will give me longer battery life but it was worse

I always use Nestle water to top it up.

Anyways i read about reviving batteries until i came here, and i was thinking to add Epsom salt as a temporary solution, but here i have read that one has to flush battery first.

What would you recommend, battery started giving troubles in 6 month, and 3 more months have passed since. Now it only give backup of 15 minutes on very few energy savers.

Should I just add concentrated Epsom Salt solution in all cells?
I am busy for next 2 weak after that i can try other methods as well.

Electrolyte seems to be clear in all cells, but all plates have turned blackish, but plates shapes looks alright

I also have a couple of Aurora's in my home. They are both quite old models. My experience with Aurora is that the charging current is too low. The batteries remain undercharged especially during summer when load-shedding is frequent. In winters its not an issue.

I heard that they increased charging current on later models to compensate for increased load-shedding. Can't really say if your UPS suffers from low charging condition. The only way to check is to monitor charging amps with a DC ampere meter.

Secondly never use tap water, Nestle water, bottled water, or even battery water sold in bottles for 20 rupees. All have very high TDS (Total dissolved solids) which is bad for batteries. Personally I use RO water, because I have an RO filter at home. It has very low TDS, less than 20 ppm (parts per million). Ideally you should only use distilled water or de-ionized water. If you go to an AGS dealership, they have AGS branded battery water, that is also good for batteries. I haven't personally tested it, but it has been tested by @talhawaleed with a TDS meter.

About the condition of the battery, it looks like it's approaching end of life. I doubt it could be revived. I have one battery in a similar condition, black plates, low backup, 2 years old, AGS200ah. I have a battery de-sulfator, I will try hooking it up to the battery to see if it improves. But in any case I will buy a new one before summer sets in.

mine has 10am and 20amp selection button, at 130Amp battery i set it at 10 amp

i dont know how it got sulphated too quick

First pair of 2 120 amps on desi UPS worked 2 years, 2nd pair on same UPS with advanced controller board (with selectable voltages cutoffs etc) lived 1 year only

Scrapped that UPS in favour of Aurora single battery, so that Overall loss is reduced, but this thing started to give trouble in 6 months.

May be I should flush the battery and fill it with RO/ PyroChem water or AGS bottles

You can try flushing it, although I don't think it will dramatically change the battery backup.

Is the underside of the battery caps black?
Does the battery feel hot when you touch it?
Are the sides of the battery bulging outwards or are they completely flat?

Well not sure about caps, may be a bit, water was clear.
Battery is not hot, might be mildly but i know how a bad battery gets hot.
Its not bulging.

It gave max 1 hour back up when we used 1 fan, few Energy saver, and 1 pedastal fan (old gujranwala style power hungary)
removing that gujranwala fan increased back up to 1 hour 30 min or so with 1 roof fan and liberal use of Energy savers and 2 DC fans (20-30 watts at best), they have their own batteries that were dead

Without padestal fan UPS always surpassed 1 hour mark

then by the time (sep oct i guess) there was no pedastal fan or roof fan, just few lights and those battery wala table fans on UPS but some how UPS started to collaps before 1 hour

then only energy savers were working in nov - dec and UPS used to die down at 45 minutes at night time (energy savers ON)

Now its 15 minutes

only works upto an hour with beeping when no Light is used only Internet Model and cordless are connected with few mobile chargers, laptop etc that are always on UPS

How can an AGS get dead so quickly

I have decided now. Will buy a brand new battery, keep this one dried, when brand new battery will get empty i will desulphate this one by that time and use it, and start desulphating new one.

So guys, which brand new battery to use (of course with distilled water or AGS special water)
