Maintaining UPS/car batteries

Yaar ****, mine is also this GX 135 got last year May

It gave max 1 hour back up when we used 1 fan, few Energy saver, and 1 pedastal fan (old gujranwala style power hungary)
removing that gujranwala fan increased back up to 1 hour 30 min or so with 1 roof fan and liberal use of Energy savers and 2 DC fans (20-30 watts at best), they have their own batteries that were dead

Without padestal fan UPS always surpassed 1 hour mark

then by the time (sep oct i guess) there was no pedastal fan or roof fan, just few lights and those battery wala table fans on UPS but some how UPS started to collaps before 1 hour

then only energy savers were working in nov - dec and UPS used to die down at 45 minutes at night time (energy savers ON)

Now its 15 minutes

only works upto an hour with beeping when no Light is used only Internet Model and cordless are connected with few mobile chargers, laptop etc that are always on UPS

How can an AGS get dead so quickly

I have decided now. Will buy a brand new battery, keep this one dried, when brand new battery will get empty i will desulphate this one by that time and use it, and start desulphating new one.

So guys, which brand new battery to use (of course with distilled water or AGS special water)

I purchased ups inverx 720w in 2014 april ags was recomended by dealers its the best bla bla bla it never completed 1 year load was 3 celing fans 2 of them are new gfc halka wala pankha lol and 3 savers it used to give 4.5 hours max and after 10 months it slipped to 1 hour backup
Replaced it with osaka 240 in 2015 may and it gives 5 hours backup on 4 celing fans 4 tube lights and still water level is ok

If its dead or faulty then why its charging normally and discharging abnormally

hmm gonna try Osaka now

But high load, because 135 is not enough, its discharged too much that causes early sulphation (i read somewhere)

so 200 may have more charge after 1 hour so it will sulphate slowly

Also in this thread i heard about some other company (phantom somehting) that has UPS battery line, though the author was not sure if they were deep cycle batteries or not

in my AGS, water level donot drop much, one or 2 cells get dry more, but even when i knew its low i dint filled it up last month until 2 days ago, one was still wet, the other was dry from TOP, but i know it was very less dry as adding water immediately raised the level above plates.

anyways, now its gonna be proper battery management, when as usage, other as backup while taking proper method to repare that

Its too expensive to get new for 10k and while old one goes for 2k only

infact get rid of it get some thailand made batteries they last long time my friend is using them since 4 years and ups got burned they remained fine and still on new ups those old battries working fine

From where to get them? UPS doing too too now just 20 min after lights out. Just on internet and laptop load

I remember my jdm corolla had Panasonic battery that lasted 4 years, and it was old battery

need urgent help.
i have appolo inverter/ups with AGS 200 Battery.
but after 3,4 hours of charge it becames quite hot !
is it dangerous ?
what could be problem ?
ups is one year old while battery 8-10 months !

You can try flushing it, although I don't think it will dramatically change the battery backup.

Is the underside of the battery caps black?
Does the battery feel hot when you touch it?
Are the sides of the battery bulging outwards or are they completely flat?

OK i checked again, negative on Outward Bulge or extra heat, its just slightly warm, slightly, you can just sense it.

But undersides of the caps (the white surface) are indeed have black deposits. 2 of the cells looked more black but its not complete black.

What does this mean, i again checked, electrolyte was clear, no blackish residue there, i could see the plates clearly, and those plates are black.

I have noticed now my battery is GX132, not 135

My next plan is this

Get 200AH battery, so they have a good charge level when power is restored, hoping this will slow down deteriorating process
Pheonix UPS series, if they really have thicker plates
Best available Water or Sulphuric acid (will try to get ready made Acid from Pyro Chemicals)

Any other suggestion guys?

Charged batteries should show between 13.2 ~ 14. Most charged batteries do not show beyond 13.2 vdc. So it should be OK.

for lead acid batteries, UPS should charge the batteries to the cut off Voltage which can be set anywhere between 14-14.4 Volts, once charging stops then output voltage on battery terminals will drop which is normal and may drop till 12.5 Volts.

This is a very good thread you have made, can you please guide me on few things

My latest AGS 130AH battery has gone dead very quickly
I bough it with my new Aurora UPS (chinese) hoping that will give me longer battery life but it was worse

I always use Nestle water to top it up.

Anyways i read about reviving batteries until i came here, and i was thinking to add Epsom salt as a temporary solution, but here i have read that one has to flush battery first.

What would you recommend, battery started giving troubles in 6 month, and 3 more months have passed since. Now it only give backup of 15 minutes on very few energy savers.

Should I just add concentrated Epsom Salt solution in all cells?
I am busy for next 2 weak after that i can try other methods as well.

Electrolyte seems to be clear in all cells, but all plates have turned blackish, but plates shapes looks alright

Number of things can result in what you are experiencing, obviously you need to get hold of a meter and verify or give us clue atleast.
Always determine the charging rate using AMP meter, if this is set incorrectly or in-other words, UPS manual recommend a different battery then if charging rate cannot be controlled on this then you got the culprit. If this ups trickle charges the battery then measure the three different charging rates at different instances.

Verify the cut off voltage, look for loose battery terminals and verify what is the last stage charging rate.

Third, Nestle bottle has a much better TDS value then Red battery bottle which is a Fraud being sold in market, but even then this TDS value of Nestle bottle with value 170 is way too much for your battery.

I feel, you battery could have have died because of sulfation (remaining in discharged state) because of an imported UPS attached, so performing the flush and pouring the clean electrolyte will defintly bring the battery life back to normal.

Espom Salt experiment can be performed, but before you will have to empty the batteries, pour a solution of Espom salt and water in batteries and let it charge the batteries for couple of days. You can use nestle water here. Espom salt experiment is performed once batteries dies because of sulfation.

Well I don't have amp meter for this much current. I will try to get it asap.

My own idea is same, its not imported ups but digital at least. It probably charges humanely compared to desi stuff, and probably battery is smaller then required. Hence deep discharges and lengthy low charge state accelerated the problem.

Will do desulfation after buying a new battery

I am also thinking to get TDS meter first. I am hopeful I will get one from some chem shop at anarkali. If looks different then yours. What do u say. Buy from local shop or import from aliexpress?

You can make your own charger. Buy a 5A 15vdc power supply for charging your car battery. About 15~20 minutes charging will boost the battery to start the engine. Once started it should be enough to keep running. Please keep you car tuned for good performance.

There is higher rate of discharge causing heating of battery. Kindly check the drain current by clamp meter. Also check the specific gravity of battery electrolyte. There seems to mismatch of charge/discharge between UPS and installed battery.

Buddy i am not sure what kind of UPS is this

But getting battery hot is not a good sign.

May be if you explain other conditions.
Are plates clear or black?
Color of Electrolyte?
Color of underside of cap?
Is battery bulging out?
Did it ever dried out due to lack of maintenance?

My last battery set used to get hot, that also happened within a year of purchase, though my current battery is almost dead but donot gets hot.

With above details i am sure other members will help you better.
