Steering column and power steering updates guys..... So today i bought and installed complete japanese steering column with built-in power steering (EPS) motor and it didn't required a single bit of alteration
....
This is the joint where the steering column would be connected with the steering box:
Initially i was buying Japanese Alto's own steering column and it was hell expensive for 8.5k .... then the parts dealer proposed me to install KEI's steering column which was fully identical to Alto's one with only difference of the size of the joint with KEI's joint being a bit longer than Alto's but it was cheaper than Alto's for 6k only as Alto's column was high in demand and KEI's wasn't due to fewer cars ... Rest of the things were totally identical including the bolts and connector plates where it gets installed with the Dash's inner rod.
This was the Alto's column:
The was Alto's connecting joint:
This is the KEI's column which i bought and installed.... i couldn't take pic of it's connecting joint but it was a bit longer (about 1.5 inch more) than the Alto's one and rest was totally identical. I made the right decision as the 1.5 inch more proved very very critical in connecting the Steering Column with the Steering Box without altering the length of the Steering Rod which connects column with the box.... if i had bought the Alto's one, i would definitely had to increase the length of Rod:
This is the connecting Rod of Mehran which connects Steering Column with the steering Box:
Mehran's own connecting Rod was not compatible with the steering column joint:
Initially my denter thought that we would have to make alterations in the connecting Rod of mehran by cutting it and then joining it with compatible joint for the steering column.... one end of the connecting Rod of Mehran which connects with the steering Box joint as in the Picture 1 would be the same while the other altered end would connect with the steering column.
But then unexpected happened .... I went and bought KEI's connecting Rod and damnnnn it was end to end compatible with the car.... its connecting end with the Mehran's steering box joint connected without any hassle and alteration and the other end with the steering column as well as shown in pics below:
We checked the steering wheel and rotation of wheels and all is great!
The only issue that i faced was the space between the steering wheel and the sitting... it was touching my thighs:
That is because Mehran's own seats are way higher than Alto's:
In Alto the gap between the steering wheel and the thighs are about 3-4 inches:
But in my case the steering was touching the thighs ..... My denter says that this issue will be resolved as i will Install Alto's seats as well as a little bit of adjustments in the dash which will surely give me that 3-4 inch space ... i'll update you guys accordingly
