How is it a good effort? Selling licenses like ALU and Timatar. They are not conducting any proper driving tests, just making money. What good is a license if its issued without any kind of driving test?
I think our police here is confusing it with weapons license, which do not require any testing. Remember we had a TV license ? didn't care if you know how to use one.
It is hilarious how these people think! or is it just an effort to make a quick buck.
I have seen the culture of driving license being imposed in Punjab, those guys really wanted things to improve and they did. Karachi is a mad house, people nowadays are driving "wrong way" on major roads and right in front of the traffic police AND during rush hours causing massive traffic jams and terrible accidents. On my way from work at the Baloch Colony Express way, there is an accident almost every alternate day. Just because there is a tight bend with traffic coming in front the wrong way. These are horrible accidents and not scratches or dents.
Bikers think of themselves as pedestrians, they travel wrong way more frequently and feel free to ride on the side walk or anything large enough to put two wheels on. They even jump through the dividers to take an easy U-turn. After all these signal free corridors, people have literally gone crazy and avoid travelling even 2 meters extra to take a proper U-turn.
The point is, enforce the damn law, start by stopping, fining (check the license while at it) whoever is breaking the law. Start with gross misconducts such as "Driving wrong way", breaking signals while educating and implementing the "lane" culture.
In the end, we all know what is happening at the license office. Its like they are giving out free biryani
