Great - your car must be singing now, there is nothing more sweet than the sound of a mercedes 5 cylinder engine. (rorty and smooth at the same time) - the drip method is excellent to time the start of injection and results are beautiful everytime. if you need to correctly time a VE style pump on any sort of diesel (hilux, corolla, LC etc) give me a PM and i'll guide you in that also).
This OM617 turbo was in a beige LHD 300D (W123), and the pump was messed so incredibly bad that the engine would start, falter, miss, nail, buck and when accelerated would run-away to full rpm. The run-away was partly caused by the delivery valves being incorrectly seated (chisel and hammer marks), and a valve guide snapped in two (some mechanic probably had tried to use straight spanners to adjust the tappets). DPS built the pump, same charges but the parts list needed to be swallowed with water, the rack adjuster, all DVs, all elements etc and also the cam were royally punished.
The car had been sitting dead for about 5 or 6 years before I repaired it in 2003. it was pretty torquey when the boost shoved it. At that time I did come to know of two OM617 (turbo) engines in peshawar that were for sale, I didnt need any because the car's original engine was in good spec. If I do get to know of any 617 turbo engine in Pakistan, I'll surely PM you.
