yes, VW has made massive advancements in DCT and they are now turning out to be what was expected of them at lauch. This shows us that DCT is a pretty advanced and complex system, Chinese cars have also invested heavily in DCT but their results are still un certain and not recorded,
They claim to have solved most issues by using a wet clutch which VW pioneered to stop the excessive wear in the clutches. FOrd persisted with the dry clutch and destroyed the reputation of the focus. Chinese cars have been using the wet clutch since VW confirmed its reliability.

I have only driven the focus DCT, audi s-tronic and some of the chinese DCT cars in test drives, The chinese DCT feels smother than the ford but to me it feels very confused especialy when pushing the car.

I have been driving VW DCT / DSG for around a decade.. Its now very hard for me to drive a non VW group transmission car..

What VW group car do you drive.Does it have DCT?I have tested the Proton X70 and am very impressed.Has DCT 7 gears wet clutch.There were absolutely no jerks and the gear changes are seamless.With five year warranty I guess one would be safe.The only thing bothering me is a long waiting time.They will start production in late July/Aug.Would appreciate your your advice on Proton.THe only one available is Sportage which is okay but doesn't have the features.

I currently own a MK7 GTI.. I used to have a MK6 GTI for few years , MK6 Golf R [ for short while , couple of weeks ].
Also had a VW Jetta GLI, which you can call a sedan version of GTI as it had same engine and transmission as GTI. VW group DSG shifts way faster than any other dual clutch currently on market.

the proton x70 seems to be an excellent car, I have test driven the Geely coolray and it has the same engine and transmission, it seemed pretty decent, plus proton Pakistan are also giving their standard 5yr 150k warranty, with reasonable pricing, That deal seems to me one of the best in the local crossover market. Every other china manufacturer is reducing their warrnaty and increasing priceses a few folds in pakistan

Just a correction, the warranty is 3 years 100K for stuff under the hood for X70. The 5 year 150K is for window motors, regulator and channel only.

That is not correct. I explicitly asked the manager at lahore showroom. The warranty is 5 years for the whole vehicle + drivetrain

lets hope, cuz car warranty always means the drivetrain, other parts normaly have the fine print, but atleast the major componenets should be in warranty, Their 1.5 engine which is in the x70 Pakistan is also the chinese heart award winner so its no slouch,.

Proton don't even offer 150K / 5 year warranty on engine and other mechanicals in their own country where these models are assembled . Its difficult to imagine for a country where it is exported or will be assembled.

Proton Malaysia is fully automatic robotic assembly line. We will see how things are put together here by AlHaj.

Importer will face penalty in case of misdeclaration of invoice value. Duty has been fully paid on invoice as per Fazal Sb's post above, so unless invoice value proven to be wrong, there is no risk of application of any additional duty in future. And even if the penalty comes, the purchasers should not liable for the importer's wrong doings. It is not a new tax being imposed in 'back date'.

Thank you for pointing this out.There are so many hidden things that one really needs to read the fine print very carefully.Both dealerships for Proton has been clearly saying its a 5-year warranty.Additionally the features in CKD will exactly be the same as the CBU units in both variants as initially its going to be pure assembly only notwithstanding automatic/robotic plant or semi manual.As regards the young boys and girls hired as "Sales Executives" they are so pathetic that one need not even ask them any questions.I had to show the lumber switch in Sportage FWD in the driver's seat to one who kept on insisting it doesn't have one.About time a "dedicated forum is opened for Proton-X70. Fazal Wahab Sb to do the honours with his insightful posts.
Competition is becoming tough for all Assemblers and am glad Toyota, Honda and Suzuki is feeling the heat.
