I’m not too fond of proton and dfsk glory either

Proton is nice but the shape isn’t appealing
I’m not buying a car due to necessity
I just wanted something fresh
At first I wanted to wait for some electric variants from KIA or hyndai but I figured they won’t be available before 2022

What do you guys think I should do?
Any advice?

I don’t want to be stuck with a car I can’t register or I have to pay extra duties on
I also don’t want a car without proper dealer support

I’m not sure now about MG HS even though I’ve booked it

I was in the same boat as you in terms of looking at MG HS as an option. All your points are bang on, it is such a strong contender when it comes to looks, size, features and CBU quality.
Although I was a bit more cautious and fought the urge to book up till now, but the current under invoicing investigation is just too much of a risk for me to handle. This next car will just be a replacement for my current Grande and obviously not out of necessity but the money differential is not a small amount for me.
So finally I will be going with the safer option for now in one of the Koreans. With the hope that things will settle down in a year or two and then I can replace if they are favourable then.
For you, I would worry but not too much. Have faith and inshallah it will be ok. I think Fazal Sb’s advice is correct and it should be ok with you. Don’t take any decision in haste. Best case, you get a wonderful car at this price point and enjoy it now. In my opinion, worst case would be a price increase due to duty or other factors and you would still get a car you can keep and enjoy. It will probably hold its revised value for a while too, since inflation will be hiking up prices for the rest of the car market.

You can sell it to a dealer, carfirst once delivered and if you find no customer. Then get a proton fwd. I 101% agree with you MG quality is like none other we have experienced in Pakistan, but the attraction is there for a reason. Just bear with its looks... you will settle on it in a few months, it's shares many great features with MG at a good price.

I was a big fan of MG myself, but this was anticipated it would not end well for them. 300 bn rs ($1.5bn) is just too big to ignore. And logically it's easier to tax 1000s of mg owners 20 lac each (since they already had 55 lac to spend so easily) to make it up than afridi whose net worth is hardly 10bn rs.

Like I said till they are in power you have nothing to fear. But enjoy your car for a few weeks after delivery then sell asap. You will not regret it in a couple of years...

take it easy, with time this issue will also die down and nothing's gonna happen ..MG HS will be delivered.

I would agree that this fiasco will die down.however MG people are themselves to blame for tarnishing their credibility.What they need is to get their act together and launch an authentic campaign explaining to their customers and potential customers where they stand with FBR.They must ensure there would be no extra duties imposed on people who have already taken delivery.Its a good brand and would turn competition on its head.So PLEASE MG COME OUT CLEAN.

There’s is no manufacturing plants in Pakistan all big 3 are just assembling it here or they have assembly points. MG will also do same practice.which needs small time to establish.

I for some reason don’t think they will be interested in making a plant considering they are easily importing cars and still taking a lot of bookings so why should they even make a plant then as they can still operate as an importer because they are paying full duty for what they have declared
They have imported 1000+ HS units now

But I thought that according to auto policy of 2016 they will have to make a plant by July in order to operate in Pakistan

Considering they are paying all taxes for declared amount and can import parts and things are at least for now going well for them
