Hi,

As MG has launched its local PK version of PHEV, earlier MG sold out their CBD (imported) units.
I am interested in it. It would be nice if someone has his experience of driving MG-HS PHEV and share it here.

Did you watch suneel munj video? He wanted to charge the car at bhera and he came to know the industrial charger can't be plugged into MG PHEV, it has a different port design. So you can only charge this car using OEM charger which is strange

That is quite common for PHEVs, they often do not support fast charging because that requires specific cooling to ensure the batteries do not overheat in the car. Due to the nature of PHEVs usage companies do not include the fast charging capabilities because they do not expect people to use EV modes for long commutes and to save on costs and space.

If I understood the drivetrain correctly it would actually drive like a hybrid onwards so you should be looking at something like 16 km/l in the city without any kind of electric charge. Would love to hear more input on this though, never owned a PHEV and the fuel figures on these are always inflated because they count full electric range towards it

This is correct. PHEVs almost never deplete their entire battery and leave the last 10% or so for HEV mode. So once the battery goes down to that level, they typically operate as a regular HEV instead of becoming a purely ICE vehicle.

In other words, their fuel average would still be better than pure ICE variants.

I think for the time being the PHEV is the best of both worlds. In pure EV mode we can expect to get about 75 km. I live in Islamabad and my daily commute is in the range of 60-70km. So if I was to be a bit careful I could do my daily run in an EV. Plug the car in upon my return to home base and be ready for the next day. Plus there is an extra bonus of having a vehicle that will take me to Multan or Nathia Gulli without any range anxiety at all. I am on the lookout for a 7 seater PHEV.

Does anyone having experience of charging it at home? to identify how much time it take to charge as fast charge is not working for it, as mentioned above by umairzafar that this PHEV will not be able to charge from commercial station.

Jetour has PHEV variants of X70 and X90 as well but I'm not sure if they'd be launching those in Pakistan.

(Though I wouldn't count X70 as a proper 7-seater because you could barely fit a child in those rear seats and they basically had no legroom left if you had adults sitting in the middle).

We will see what this year brings. Jetour X70 may not be acceptable. I was invited today at the launch but suddenly there were house guests so I could not go.

I personally liked the size and feel of the X90 quite a bit more and it felt like a proper 7-seater. But that was the 2.0 ICE variant so I'm not fully sure if the PHEV also offered 7 seats.

Unfortunately, it seems like they're not launching any X90 variant in Pakistan for the time being, so it's not an option anyways.

No X90 to be brought here. I saw its equivalent Geely Haoyue or Okavango in Saudi. Looked nice.

Looking at the First Look videos PakWheels did, these variants launched here are very trimmed down from the ones I saw oversees, which is very disappointing. They're also missing Level 2 ADAS features as well. The Jolion and the HS still look very good at that price point compared to the Dashing.

China has a different way of making things. They like more of a "dump after using" approach since their manufacturing industry has a lot capacity, also at a cheaper cost. After mobile phones, cars are a new trend in that direction. I do not think we will ever see Dashing, the car itself after 10 years, anywhere... let alone aftersales support.

in Pakistan, based on my personal experience, its best (economically and technologically) to sell your car after 5 to 6 years and have new one (if possible) so even if 13 years considered the life cycle of Chinese cars its still good.

I can't find anything to corroborate this and I typically monitor the China automotive market quite closely. Can you please share any specific regulations that state that?

From what I know, you can use the vehicle as long as you want as long as it passes regular environmental and safety inspections. There isn't a limit on how old a car has to be, to be driven on roads.

Everything's going towards planned obsolescence. Gone are the days where cars used to last 20-30 years by simply replacing parts. Not just they lack parts support, they are so dang complicated to repair too. Manufacturing is done with fastest way to pump out vehicles out the door throwing repairability in trash. Manufacturers just want consumer to buy new car when old one breaks. Everything's good till the warranty then you are literally on your own. Would be interesting to see market in a few years and hopefully hopefully hopefully we do not see catastrophic failures and see better talent in being automotive technician which is very unlikely.
