Mini pajero Automatic gear shift on high RPM

Dear Experts,

I have Mini Pajero 1995 Automatic transmission, The vehical change first shift on 2800 to 3000 Rpm on speed 30 to 40 KM and second shift on near 4000 rpm on speed 40 to 50 KM. On 4500 to 5000 rpm my mini running on speed only 60 to 80 km. On low speed about 20 to 30 km vehical runs on 2500 rpm, I think its to much high. Due to high RPM fuel consumption is very high.

Please suggest some thing to resolve the issue.

well it was never meant to be a fuel effecient vehicle - it runs stupidly high rpms to compensate the lack of torque.

well 98 and below models are 3 gear forward that why the shifting is on high rpm and it ends up with high fuel consumption ... they only solution is to use soft padel dont push it hard it will give u sum decent avg ... few things to keep it mind ...
battery should not be weak
air filter to be clean always
no hard padel

Check Overdrive light in instrument panel. Is it on or off?

I think no OD option available in below 98 model.

2ndly i noticed that 4x4 led show always on and the gear position is on 2h, if i shift the gear from 2h to 4h and 4l no change found in led. I have checked to mechanic and he told me the vehical is on 2h but led is on due to some electric problem.

@Ali, boss pickup waysay he mara hoa hy, If i drive with soft padel peechay line lag jati hy gariyon ke he heh eh he.

My mechinac give me a suggestion replace the gear auto to manual (pajero junior). He give me estimated cost 22000.

Boss gear change karwanay say masla solve hosakta hay? and also please suggest me any good computerized workshop in karachi.

Mini also comes with a 4 speed auto. check for a newer model gear box. i remember few month back a friend checked in islamabad, 4 speed mini gear box with OD costed 15,000/- Jr Manual gear box...hmmm i think for that you would need lots of jugars (may be).

The light on your 4wd is for sure malfunction of the circuit only. Check on a service deck if your 4x4 is working when shift to 4H or 4L. if mechanically 4x4 engages and disengages i would suggest disregard the indication on the panel or show it to a good electrician.

Replaced the gear box, pajero junior gear box installed .

Working very good, fuel consumption realy imporved now i m getting up to 90 to 95 km with in the city,

Pickup is excelllent on cng without AC, with AC good,

RPM is still goes high but i dont care becouse m getting good fuel average.

But i m still not getting top speed, MAX speed on CNG is 90 KM

Then it should hit 140 kmph on petrol meaning there is something wrong.

Here we have a good mechanic for Mini Pajero in Rawalpindi next time I visit him I will ask him about your problem and let you know. Have to get my mini pajero tuned.

I have a very good solution for you. If u r running the vehicle on petrol than just have slightly bigger tyres (means not in width but bigger in height) and the RPM will automatically decrease.

currently m having 195/65 -15 tires i know recommended tires is 175/80-15.
what is your suggestion for tires

go for 205 size. in manual gears, mini has come with 5 fwd gear box which lowers the RPM on top gears but for auto, since the engine power is more, go for bigger tyres and get low RPM.

could you please recommend some mechanic specialized for mini pajero? i just purchased crystal light model with 660 CC ,AT gear , its missing spark alot on petrol , also pick is very low . and petrol consumption 8Km/liter , not affordable this way . infact this is jeep but cant go to Hill station, peer suhawa or muree ,

 Brother i have also a Mini Pajero 660CC 20Valve Turbo. I never face any problem in Muree or Pirsohawa. Even my jeep Engine is also week and gives blue smoke. in the other hand if we guys visit Mitsubishi website they says that its average 10KM/L at Manual & 8KM/L at Automatic transmission. Brother, below are my queries.
Need Perfect mechanic for Mini pajero tunning .
Speed is not going above than 60 to 80 my gear system is mannual 5 forward.
Petrol Average is around 12 - 14 km / Liter. M happy with that.
Need to understand function of 2H, 4H & 4L.
