Mitsubishi Heavy Industries or Mitsubishi Mr. Slim?

I am planning to get a new air conditioner. I was planning on getting Mitsubishi Mr. Slim, but a close friend has said the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries AC is better than Mr Slim.

If anyone has experience with these two air conditioner, kindly share your recommendations.

Mitsubishi heavy industries Unit is built in Japan and Mr. Slim is the same with Japanese Technology but assembled in Pakistan.... Both of them work fine.... or u can say same... i have Japanese one at home and Mr. Slim in office... only difference is price... Japanese one will cost u more....

I checked online prices Mr slim (1 ton) is selling for Rs. 49000 while Mitsubishi heavy duty is selling for Rs. 48000. That's not much of a difference. I guess I will go ahead with the heavy duty one.

Is it true that the Mitsubishi heavy duty model has motorized horizontal and vertical louvers? Mr slim only has motorized horizontal louvers.

Also is there any difference in power consumption between the two?

While the difference is that Mr.SLIM is assembled in ORIENT PAKISTAN while Heavy Industries is original made/assembled/finished in JAPAN. Power Consumption is almost same as both have ECO/POWER mode. I will suggest you to go for HEAVY INDUSTRIES. Many places have MR.SLIM old model 2009 and some have Xtreme 2010. Remember if you are going for Heavy Industries do check for gas pressure if less than drop it and have another package don't let them refill these with American or Japanese gas. Heavy Industries have more functions compared to Mr.SLIM ORIENT

Thanks for the advice, but I don't really get your point regarding AC gas. Do you mean than it is possible that an outdoor unit of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries could come with insufficient gas?

But then what would happen in future if gas needed to be replaced for some reason?

Well everyone has his own opinion. I have a very bad experience with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Split. Its a 1.5 Ton. Its problematic since day one.

Problem 1: If you fill the gas to desired pressure, the cooling is great(monetarily), but the compressor heats up and goes to thermal shutdown in a minute. You will see the AC running for hours and at times it will give chilling output, but only for a minute or two for every tens minutes of observation. If you reduce the gas pressure, it works continuously as its never able to cool to desired level and never trips. But it doesnt chill the room either. The warranty sucks big time. Seller is not responsible for fitting and warranty. Fitting guy (a separate party)is responsible for filling a warranty claim, only if it is approved as an authorized installer by importer. And we all know they work hand in hand to make sure not such thing happens

However I've seen Mr.Slim in operation at my workplace, my cousins home. Work like a charm. Make you freeze in scorching heat levels outside

Problem 2: Common to all Mitsubishi

You have to purchase separate piping kit with them. Other brands offer atleast 10feet of copper piping along with the units. But Mitsubishi never offer an inch. Also, the main unit power cable has to be installed to outdoor unit. Most of the houses have AC switch already installed close to the place where they want to place the inside unit. You have to purchase, a thick wire to carry it back to outdoor unit, and then a thin wire from outdoor to indoor to signal inside fan. Hence more wire and piping cost.

Verdict: If you still have an urge for mitsubishi, the older 2009 Model Mr. SLIM is far more superior in performance and reliability. If cost is an issue, I would recommend HAIER, Samsung, Orient but never a Mitsu. Heavy Industries.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal with your heavy industries AC. I think you have raised some valid points regarding warranty of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries AC.

Regarding AC installers they all claim to be company authorized but when you ask them if they have a vacuum pump they have no idea what that is? I really have not come across one person who knows how to install an AC by the book.

Regarding Mr. Slim, warranty is more reliable. I have one installed in my home and its great. I also have a Samsung that is good too, but Mr. Slim is far better.

However a friend of mine claims to have tried both Mitsubishi brands and he considers the heavy industries one better in terms of performance and it has some extra features like motorized vertical louvers, which I think is a good plus, since all other air conditioners come with horizontal louvers.

BTW. I need to install the AC in the basement. The room size is 16 feet x 18 feet. Would a 1 ton unit be overkill for this size, since the basement is usually cool and the maximum temperature in hot summers is 32 degrees. There is no direct heat source. The main problem is humidity. It goes beyond 80% during rainy season.

Do you think a I can manage with a 0.75 ton unit? I want to keep power consumption low.

i am the user of both the brands, and i personally think heavy duty has more options and better power consumption ratings than Mr slim, as per company Mr slim's inner is being build in Pakistan where as its outer is from china, heavy duty is some where from Indonesia or Malaysia

I bought two MHI ACs in 2010, 1 ton and a 1.5 ton. Performance remained exceptionally good. However when I moved to another house and re installed 1.5 Ton, the mechanic had the gas leaked and was re filled. There after I realized that the cooling had dropped but there is no tripping etc as one member has pointed out.
I will see what I have to do about it at the start of this summer season.
About a month back I decided to purchase another 1 ton Mitsubishi Heavy duty AC but the shop keeper advised me to get Mitsubishi Mr Slim. As per him the initial stock of MHI was good but the ones imported in 2011 are not of good quality, specially the 1.5 ton model. I took his word and purchased 1 Ton Mr Slim but will have it installed in a month or so by Mitsubishi mechanics and that will be the date at which its warranty starts. I purchased it in Mid Feb through some referance for Rs 40500/-. I am surprised how much the price has shot up in just one month.

I wouldn't trust shopkeepers and dealers. If you know them personally then they might give you good advice. But otherwise they will always try to sell you the AC on which they are making more money.

i was in market for buying mitsubishi heavy duty 1.5 ton. but it was not available. i waited for 2 weeks. and in the end bought Mr. slim.

its with orient warranty. MADE IN THAILAND. manufacturing date is august 2011. have to check its performance when summers will be in full swing and i am in multan:). it costs me 61k with installation.

I'm still using 2 splits of HEAVY DUTY which I told u in my post and still you won't believe that it is working like a paradise in full peak noon without any hassle and We've bought third one too same 1.5ton heavy duty. There's no problem came yet in previous like gas leakage, or outdoor unit indoor bla bla bla perfectly working within 5-10 mins my room is chilled or tv hall is chilled really I believe that I've spent alot but I'm in ease no repair man no refilling nothing only serviced before winter and then opened in summer.
