Moggie - Morris Minor 1000 Restoration Project

Fresh wind screen for Moggie hunted yesterday. Last week I got hold of a windscreen which looked yellowish, after doing bit of research I found it an old polished version. This again was one of the hardest item to find, I am not sure if someone is still carrying Morris Minor windscreen in his inventory, any source on this will help Morris Minor owners, may be somewhere in Karachi

Windscreen plays a key role in giving your car a new look, old one had deep scratches which is now submitted in Ramzan’s inventory for the tough times. New screen will be installed after the completion of interior fitting. Front rubber & insert were already delivered in the one of the parts shipments from UK.

Bumpers given for buffing in Gawalmandi & hopefully it will be ready in next couple of days.

Today we have started working on the engine’s presentation, old paint is being removed & it will be coated with heat resistive British Green paint with special attention to the tapped cover to give a brand-new look, finishing touch will be given by pasting the new engine plates on the tapped cover (posted on page 2). Project is picking up some pace, Finally!<o:p></o:p>

(paper, polishing are the ongoing process and the final touch will be given by the painter once fittings are done by the denter, Car is not ready to be toed, breaks installation & paint on differntial & rear suspension is left)

One gets quite involved in the thread, it looks like one of those restoration projects you find on the internet that you fantsize about, "yaar bahar to wo kaisi kaisi purani garian tayyar kar letay hain" wali story hai ye bhi.

I myself am also a fan of Morris and I'm looking for a Morris Mini (Gen-1) for restoration. I almost had a deal struck but due to the interference of a few commission seekers, I couldn't get the car. I'm still on the hunt for one. If you have any info about a Morris Mini khoka please do let me know. For plan B, I also have my eyes on a few Minors, in good condition within Isb/Pindi. I would definitely like to have contact with you and know your experience regarding the project in detail, as I'm planning to begin mine in the coming few days. I am pleased that you liked the work done on moggie, its been a hard work, series of complete weekends spent in hunting spares, research, doing things yourself once a mechanic or denter pulls off. There is always room for improvement & it's hard to repeat the exercise, so I tried to "do it right on 1st attempt", I am not sure how the Paint Job will work out after a year or so since I am not satisifed with the environment and should ahve choosen a painting booth, so fingers crossed.

Morris Mini (Gen-1) would be a 2nd good project to do, avoiding commission seekers is a tough job, that's a car, for my project I had to pay commission while getting hint on hard to find items :). Which is Okay as long as you are getting the parts in reasonable price. Haven’t came across great number of minis but will let you know as soon as I see any Gen-I. Email Sent!

Incidentally, I owned a green Minor in 2001-2. IDA plate. Does anyone know where it ended up? I sold it to a dealer on Bank road Rwp.

@RKY, Thanks a lot for your support & it was pleasure talking yesterday. With VWCOP support, I am sure that this project is moving in the right direction :). I would highly recommend rescuing Minors as very few are left and lack of resotration sense along with desire to make these little cars a hot roads is hurting them badly!

Was that car green metalic? There is one parked on left bank of Murree Road after crossing Chandni Chowk while on way to faizaabad, rear screen on the car is missing. I havent noticed the number plate, I will keep you posted on where that went.

OMG!!!! the parts collected so far are mindblowing!!! now this is how it should be done,... will be following this thread VERY carefully as of now,... and i'm sure romano will be as well (now that he knows about it)

it's amazing, if you see the workshop you;d expect them to do a pathetic job but these guys have proven that with a little time and effort that they can do an amazing job. the floors are phenomenal and the attention to detail is out of this world. haveing done a few resto jobs in the past i can say that the level of workmanship on this car is MUCh better than any of my VWs (i had to tear my hair out to get my 1303 to some level of acceptability).

i bet you can't wait to get the "special" bits on it from abroad. the tiny finishing touches are what makes you fall in love with these cars all over again (as you know).

what surprised me is that you manged to source all the parts and even more so that you found that the headlight rings from the bedford fit the moggie,.. this is a true sign of an enthusiast.

now to go home and kick my VW:P

Sheeda Ustaad (Panel beater) did a great Job on the floors, driving seat was placed over a wooden plank do distribute the weight equally on the remaining floor while on my drive to Mr. Sheeda’s shop, my car didn’t had floor before that. Unfortunately, I didn’t took any pictures at that time since I had no plans to document the project. A visit from Romano is expected to inspect the job done on the floors along with Babar (VW/Merc Panel Beater)

The painter’s shop is a worry for me due to dust & bugs flying around, thankfully the bugs were gone due to delayed start to paint work, for dust the painter kept on cleaning it before every coat. But I have my doubts. <o:p></o:p>

Job done by U on VW 1303 is inspirational and the guy working on that car is a True Master. All resto threads on PW have opened new dimensions for me and learning has no ending.

Bedford ring was serious find for me, Mr. Liaqat told me this in early days and since then I was keeping eye on the rings, while driving with my brother we kept on noticing & commenting on the rings installed on Bedford trucks :d. I was passing through Faisalabad – Sargodha road (heaven for Bedford in terms of re-building) I checked 10-12 spare parts shops and all had desi rings, only trucks with original LUCAS rings left are the 1s in blue color and used by CDA.

The old school bus was discovered while I was looking for spot lights for my Unimog and found that parked in a Junk yard, luckily this has happened when I really needed it. Anyways, every spare has a story & I have just recalled how I found its original ignition switch :p. Parts just your way when you start looking for them!<o:p></o:p>

Very Few - Still in Service

I often see this car near Commercial Market while my visit to Rawalpindi, I am not sure if this car is still running on stock engine & gear as most of the commercial drivers switched either to Datsun 1200 engine, gear & diffs and few to Corrola 74's engine.

Morris Car Manual Starting Rod & Jack Hunt

I remember my brother bought a Daewoo Racer which I was driving to Lahore via G.T. Road and the tyre got flat, I opened the boot to pull out the spare wheel & car jack. I looked at that little machine, light up a cigarette to figure out on how to operate this.

However, the story is little different for moggie, I always wondered why a piece of square pipe is installed right below the centre of front door which is certainly not some water drain system. On asking Mr. Ramzan, I discovered that this is for car jack & one can lift both the wheels without bending his back. My next question was how it looks? Can you find or fabricate 1 for me? He smiled and said let’s get back to work and will discuss it “later”.

The word “later” just made me curious to do some research and found few images which looked very different to me & I started discussing plans on fabricating it etc. Finally I got it yesterday, it was in rusty condition and last night & will be cleaned up over the weekend for fresh paint-job & greasing.

That’s my last post of the day & I will be off for a weekend and have to pick some serious pace on the project, I am just hoping to hear the sound of engine by this Sunday.

Following are few pictures of the floor & few of them are showing fresh paint on the diff & its floor from downside. Regarding body paint, only paper has been applied on the body, the polishing excercise will be done once fitting work is completed!
