before mobilink, there were Paktel and Instaphone providing TDMA.
the fones used to be sim less and had to be reprogrammed from mobile service provider in case u decide to change the handsets.
most popular handsets were Motorola brick fones, the grey bricks with heavy flips and extendable antennas having battery life of 7 8 hours and u need to carry 2 3 batteries with u.
there were chargers which used to charge 2 3 batteries at the same time just like walkies talkies handsets.
Nokia 6120 was a big leap, the amercian president had the same handset at that time costing PKR 10,000 which is equivalent to 100,000 of current age n time.
The TDMA version didnt had vibration and u had to get a battery having the vibration feature.
the battery life was amazing on nokias..i wud still have many batteris and a many variants somewhere in store rotting
GSM changed things very quickly, isntaphone went along for a while, it was considered quite advanced , even had a web portal to send SMS thru webportal at that time and other facilities.
later it was acquired by paktel, was a sad day for my 03204826319
