Dropping the sump on a 6 cyl x5 takes 14 hours of work as the front axles, diff, steer rack etc. Come out, engine is slung and subframe dropped.

Dropping lower sump on v8 x5 takes 2 to 3 hours.

Dropping upper sump on v8 x5 takes abt 30 hours work as the engine needs to be removed from the car.

You may want to check the bmw repair manual before you refer to dewan motors. Seems like they really know abt a fat wallet.

very wise words, the longest job we ever did on the car was changing all the engine mounts the front subframe had to be lowered a bit and the engine they used some weird hoist that rested on the fender rails the power steering pipes etc they just loosened and moved out of the way when the subframe was slightly lowered, took them 7-8 hrs, and whole bunch of wierd and contorted extensions to tighten the bolts it was so tightly packed, I can only imagine doing the same on the E65 BMW with the same engine and even less space. we also changed any other rubber bits and seals we came across while doing this job.

they said I was lucky to have the N62 engine and that the engine before it was a piece of junk which used to drop timing chain rail guides inside the sump without warning had vanos and many other issues, I am not sure how true that this as I heard so much about the N62 engine too like valve stem seals, oil leakages, vacuum pump woes, v8 valley coolant pipe leaking which apparently is a major job and so is the rear main seal and secondary air injection pipes becoming clogged requiring engine out etc, thankfully having only 80k on the odd I have been immune so far knock on wood. I honestly every month give a lot of sadqa and prayers for this car than for the Mercedes as I fear it lol.

I repair bmws a lot, they are not too weird, the engine sling, wobbly extensions and flat extensions are just normal part of work on any random car

If you think bmws are difficult, try working on some fiats or alfa romeos. They are extremely stupid.

The mounts on your x5 require about 4 inches of subframe clearance and removing the mount arms. The 4x4 system remains in place for it.

to do a larger job on a BMW sedan involving multiple procedures on the engine, raise it on a lift, and remove the entire powerpack (engine/gearbox, subframe etc) as one entire piece on a platform table. No use of trying to fight it while in place - specially if its a v8.

removing the powertrain is not too bad, takes about 2 to 2.5 hours at maximum if you know what you are doing. (one man working alone)

Actually i think the reason is that Mobile 1 is currently coming in drums and being packed here locally in cans which are made in Singapore. Meguin supply is finished, but i just discovered this brand MANNOL the packing alone tells you its not from Pak unlike the packing of mobile 1 where i usually notice the rear sticker slightly misaligned.Its german and i might go for it .Here in rwp i haven't seen petronas.

I am quite happy with Shell 5W-40 and it says on the bottle it meets MB 229.5 and .51 approval, if any other oil like Mannol also mentions MB approval 299.5 or better then thats good too

with the BMW I only use Castrol 5W-30 from Dewan cause the oil cap says castrol lol no other reason, btw the packing and formula of Castrol I have seen at Dewan is different and seems better with LL01 BMW approval compared to castrol otherwise available as imported. ill try to grab a picture later.

on that note idk why Dewan leaves engine on the floor when rebuilding maybe these are to be discared? Idk but sketchy especially if you payinfg minimum 1 million for say a BMW X1 engine rebuild which seems to be the most common for upto 3.0 million for the bigger engines

saw this on an early W140 around a year back all the wiring was falling apart and in one place had lead to a small fire which was contained, I see this with BMW wiring but not with Mercedes ever[

The classic w140 and w124 wiring rot.

Benz used biodegradable wiring on those cars, expecting the cars will be offloaded and scrapped in 5 years.

I forgot count how many wiring harnesses I have rebuilt for w140 and w124. I did quite a lot in Pakistan and a boatload here in usa as mail order business.

They have very beautiful wiring when you see a new one, its like art.

WTF.. a random homebrew diy garage would be cleaner than this.

They dont have worktables? Or even the classic rough tile bmw service floor (its a global standard)

yes this is their engine rebuild corner lol you can even see a new crate engine in the background in the second picture and all these on there floor are here for the rebuild, this is where the rebuilt magic happens after spending Rs. 1-3 million of fairy dust.
