Desi generators are also good at least from Chinese gen sets. The real soul of a generator is the engine and then the alternator. Toyota is a Japanese engine and try to ensure a good quality 100% copper alternator. Get the alternator from some reliable source. Rest coupling and other stuff is almost the same for everyone sitting and working in the market. Get a gas kit connected to it besides the petrol tank. Spend some more money and put it in a sound and weather proof canopy (max 50 to 60, 000). Mantainance is just like a car engine. This is a hot business in Peshawar. People from Islamabad go to Peshawar for this purpose. They are actually good except for the fact that maintainance is more than a diesel engine. Spark plugs, tappets, tuning etc etc. That's why diesel engines are preferred plus answering your last question more specifically...........have you ever seen a truck on petrol?

Stamford's are really good alternators. Do check from people and keep in mind that maintenance of petrol gensets is a lot when compared to diesel. A petrol engine has all the adjustable thingys such as spark plugs, tappets, carburetor, injection valves, plug wires, etc etc. Whereas a diesel is as good as an oil and oil filter change and that's all about it. From a cars perspective this really doesn't matter cause the speed is variable at all times + you can drive it to the workshop whereas when the same is used as a genset............constant speed and you can't just drive it to the workshop. If you're the type who's all the time seeking opportunities to work on such issues and enjoys it than go for it..........otherwise.........please consult a few people already using it and not the sellers.

Do your homework before jumping to a conclusion.

Look for their 12 kva model. These are very quiet and great machines and also have a office in karachi. They give 5 years warranty + their prices include everything (genset, battery charger, transfer switch, ATS etc). Prices are reasonable.

For normal stuff.......... Visit your local market.

Chinese genset giving us a lot of problems, Honda which we bought 10 years ago works let better then a year old Chinese brand

Last time bought oes power genset they are giving 1 year warranty so till now three visit have been made by them but we get rid of mechanics 2 numberi working fine too there after sale service is very strong.

Now thinking of buying two again or make one out of Toyota engine.

I am offered 300k By FG Wilson without ATS But We will let it go for 375k With ATS Complete package.

We have made the decision I will let you know only when I am about to issue a purchase order

1- its capacity is double as per our requirement

2- its on diesel, we need gas generator as daily duration of load shading is 8-10 hours and diesel would be quite expensive.

aah.. aakhir Stamford England ka alternator mil hi gaya.. used hai.. but local used nahi.. 22.5 Kva. costs me 1 lac.

Let me congratulate you on purchase of a very reliable genset. Generally people don't understand the value of "Peace of Mind" and they keep paying life long without any calculation and believe they have saved a lot . I am also looking for Lister Petter Engines to build on genset for myself and luckily found your post. I suggest people to check prices of Indian Lister engine and will know what they are talking about. The design and engine is very very reliable and true workhorse as well as fuel efficient.

As per spec sheet it consume 3.8 L/hr @ 100% load, which means @ 30% load it should consume 1.14 L/hr.
So, (hr downtime) 8 x 1.14 = 9.1 Litres.

Companies usually tend to write exaggerated fuel consumptions on their specs sheet due to the fear of law suit in the west, otherwise they are the most fuel efficient engines. Its fuel efficiency is also praised on many reputed international generators forums. Not only Lister Petter but other famous brands such as FG, Perkins, CAT etc also observe the same practice however, the actual fuel consumption is not as quoted. I contacted and personally visited quite a few sites already using Lister Petter Gensets which include NADRA and some defence installations. All of them confirmed a way less fuel consumption as quoted on the specs sheet. I will calculate the exact fuel consumption once summer kicks in.........haven't really got a chance to use it much to date.
If one can afford the price and fuel expenses in those terrible long hours Hot summers load shedding, I think its worth it as long as it runs trouble free and gives a good service to me and my family because peace of mind and comfortable environment is priceless.

Sure Why not......
5 KVA means 5 x 0.8 (pf) = 4 KW (4000 Watts).
I ton AC takes Max 9 Amps at starting which means 9 x 220(V) = 1980 W or 2000 Watts Approx. (you're still 50 % within limit at starting)
after a minute or 2 the rating of AC drops down to 6.5 Amps or 7 Amps to be on the safe side.......7 x 220 (V) = 1540 Watt.

Not only can you run a one ton AC but also a few fans and lights. Hope it helps.
