You thread is very informative, and really good as it give a very good review of gensets. Are you able to comment the best and most hassle free option one could have for running one 1 ton ac a bit more? I just want a good nights sleep, and don't mind lights as UPS can run that. However, Chinese generators are a hassle, so I want a hassle free option. You comments would be welcome.

1 ton AC takes 9 Amps at starting and then within a minute or two becomes stable at 6.5 to 7 amps. Multiply Amps with Voltage (220) and you'll get the wattage
I.e., 9 amps x 220 v = 1980 Watts and 7 amps x 220 v = 1540 Watts.
It means that your AC will consume almost 2000 Watts at starting and 1500 Watts on continuous running. 2000 Watt is the key figure here as without it the AC compressor won't start. While selecting a genset, keep in mind that your total load should not exceed more than 80% of the generators total capacity. In your case, you should search for a generator with an output rating of minimum 2400 Watt (2.4 KW) or divide 2400Watt with 0.8 Power Factor 2400/0.8=3000 VA or 3 KVA.
Don't mix KW with KVA. KVA is always larger than KW.
You need 2.4 KW or 3 KVA genset.
My suggestion...........calculate the load of your UPS too and put it on Generator cause WAPDA will be absent for long time and your UPS won't be able to charge........Secondly, when a generator is running than why not to take advantage of it and also charge UPS?

Now about the brand part........I consider Generator as an investment, just like a car. It gives you services and comfort. So its better to invest in something worthwhile rather in some Chinese crap that will require your service instead of giving service....Lolz.
Honda is the best of the best in the market and also my personal experience. They are expensive but trust me every penny worth it.

Second option is Yamaha, if you can find a genuine one. Both of these are Japan made, expensive but trouble free. All you'll be doing with these is oil change and air filter clean and that's all. They are designed to run for years and years.
Third option is Chinese. They are cheap (one forth the price) but will keep on bothering you.

No problem. Bro, I already mentioned that I cant exactly comment until I topup again and calculate it properly. While your reservation might be correct but let me tell you that according to NADRA Genset Tech from whom I inquired about its fuel effciency (before purchasing), he quoted me a 1.5 L to 2 L consumption of thier 40 KVA genset at 60 % load.
I am not justifying it, but Lister Petter engines are famous for thier fuel efficiency. You can search international Genset forums for that. Moreover, there is no load on it now a days. The real figures will come out once the summer arrives and real loadsheeding starts. Will put 3 AC's load and misc stuff then quote the exact figure. Haven't got a chance to use it or abuse it properly

Yes I am afraid you have to wait. Unlike offices and factories, its difficult to calculate the exact consumption because load is not the same at all times in a home. However, I will try to come up with some near to exact calculation.

Dude I live in karachi and it is perfectly legal to use domestic gas gen sets here. All i had to do was write to SSGC seeking permission to install one, they issued a challan and upon payment SSGC installed a bigger regulator and a bigger capacity meter, my cummins generator has been running like a charm (Alhamdullialah) since then:)

Yes I know that bro. Karachi is my parental city, spent a lot of time there and I miss it like anything.
We have SNGPL here and its not allowed here. They even give threatening advertisements in print media before the winter starts. Its quota system bro. Gas is a big problem in Punjab while not such a big issue in Karachi. There is a difference in rate even.

Anyways. Post some detailed pics bro especially of the engine bay. Share the mantainance schdeule . It would be helpful for everyone.

Our ansectral home in karachi defense also has a Kohler 205 KVA gas generator installed and running for the last 7 years now. I also remember them taking permission and stuff for a wider pipe, bigger regulator and bigger meter. How much did you pay to SSGPL?

Its a small cummins set of 2.5 kva, the only maintenance required is oil change and an yearly service performed the the OES comapny. OES being the ex-agents of Cummins portable gensets in Pakistan.

brother.. ELECTRICITY GENEREATION k liye sui southern gas company ltd. bhi allow nahi karti.. lekin jahan allow karti hai to us k liye alag se connection deti hai.. bcoz power generation k liye unit price alag hai..

and in site area (industrial area) power generation k connections k liye alag hi piping ki gayi hai.. aur kuch arsay se koi new connection allow hi nahi.. jo pending requests thiin.. un ko bhi kaafi mushkil se connection de rahay hain.

Atleast ssgpl has some policy for it. We took permission some 7 or 8 years back in karachi. Whereas Sngpl does not allow this at all. But still there are factories in Islamabad running on gas gensets but they are owned by big shots. This is 100 % correct info that sngpl does not allow to produce electricity from gas at residential and commercial places. I had a direct chat with a grade 20 director of Chappa Mar team at sngpl. He is a very honest person and was very helpless regarding the big shots situation.

Desi generators are also good at least from Chinese gen sets. The real soul of a generator is the engine and then the alternator. Toyota is a Japanese engine and try to ensure a good quality 100% copper alternator. Get the alternator from some reliable source. Rest coupling and other stuff is almost the same for everyone sitting and working in the market. Get a gas kit connected to it besides the petrol tank. Spend some more money and put it in a sound and weather proof canopy (max 50 to 60, 000). Mantainance is just like a car engine. This is a hot business in Peshawar. People from Islamabad go to Peshawar for this purpose. They are actually good except for the fact that maintainance is more than a diesel engine. Spark plugs, tappets, tuning etc etc. That's why diesel engines are preferred plus answering your last question more specifically...........have you ever seen a truck on petrol?

I did not apply for power generation, I applied for regularization of residential generator. This regularization campaign is carried out by SSGC every year.
