I completed first 10,000kms on my current vehicle in the first week of June - exactly after five months I purchased it. I know 8th-gen CIVIC is now more than five year old model and lot has been written about it. Lot many owners have shared their views but I believe there is something about this 2011 model in Pakistan that needs special mention. So, this is primarily why I am writing these lines....to share this with PW members.
I made an attempt to get a new CIVIC some time back in 2009 - but what kept me away from CIVIC was its repute on fuel consumption (and I wanted to run it on petrol - no CNG). One of my colleagues had a 2006 model Prosmatic and it was giving him not more than 6-7kpl. I was not ready to spend so much on fuel in any case.
It was late 2010....when a friend from Honda Atlas told me that they had tuned the car (and changed some parts) for optimum performance - and that the 8th-gen CIVIC must be giving peak performance in 2011 (the year when we will say farewell to 8th-gen). Trusting my friend - I made the switch and bought 2011 CIVIC.
I must say that during the last five months (and 10,000kms) I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is powerful - it is fun to drive - and it is surprisingly economical. I have been constantly getting 12-13kpl with city (AC on) and on motorway it goes beyond 13kpl.
In the fourth week of May, I went to Lahore by Motorway, travelled 35kms on Ferozpur Road....went from there to Behria Town on Defense Road....another 25kms and then came back....and you know what....I got 14.1kpl when I reached back home. This is indeed biggest surprise that CIVIC had for me.
Biggest disappointment is the quality of plastics used in this 1.700M+ vehicle. I have tried my level best (and so the guys at Honda Classic) but one cannot stop all the squeaks and irritating sounds coming from here and there. I guess I will have to live with it.
Otherwise...it is a good car to own...and fun to drive around...
