My Woodworking Hobby

I started woodworking as part time hobby almost 2 years ago.

Got inspiration after watching couple of youtube videos of Steve Ramsey.

I bought only few basic tools and started.

So far has made 300 plus items. And out of them only 10-15 items are being used at home, all others are given as gifts to family, friends & neighbors.

Will be adding photos of some of my older & newer projects where are never perfect but still beautiful and pretty use-able.

Do we have any other woodworker here? Either professional or hobbyist ?

This is the shoe rack which I made.
Wood used is Cheerr Wood
Its local wood and very nice grains like Yellow pine.
Generally its Medium Density wood and due to some natural sap in it, it has good life.

I fixed a drawer at the upper portion. And its very helpful because it has storage capacity of more than 100 sock pairs.

Mainly I focused to make things which are mostly commonly used, such as Trays, Baskets, Knife Holders, Spoon Holders, Boxes, etc.

I made this tray from Cheerr Wood.

Actually I did buy the good stock of cheer since it was available at good price, so I made things out of it.

Check the grains and wood color transformation before & applying mineral oil.

I really love this color transformation of wood & its grains natural pattern

I have joined some YouTube channels and Facebook pages of some professionals. And believe me lot of inspiration and positive energy come after watching their videos.
I watch Steve Ramsey, James Hamilton, Tamar, 741 woodworking, an honest carpenter, etc.
The best of all is Steve Ramsey. I like him a lot because of his super simple teaching techniques.

By the way I am just a tiny hobbiest and not perfectionist

You are on the right track. Watch and learn and then improve on that. Making a mistake is not to be frowned upon and feel bad. It teaches you a lesson. We learn and from a mistake and move on. Another way to look at mistakes is to call it experience. More mistakes means more experience.

I made this cutting board by using 4-different types of woods.

Its 2 years and this cutting board is still in use on daily basis. One of the best kitchen item which is super useful

Where should one source wood from?

And what type of wood is good that is available locally easily and does not become infected with deemak or goes bad in any other way?

Sir the choice of wood is as per requirements.
For furnitures, the woods are different.
For kitchen items woods are different,
For hanging on walls, make boxes, flooring, benches, outdoor furnitures, pergola, etc. the wood choice is very important & different.

For outdoor projects are different. For indoor projects are different.

Then we have different types of coating to protect woods. Etc. etc.

Anyway the high density woods are most resistant to termite & moisture also.
Local woods like Tally (Sheesham, Rosewood), Keekar, Shareen, Perwan, etc. are high density woods and high resistant to termite.
In imported woods, its like African Teak, Mahogany, Seapaly, etc. are high density woods and good for termite resistance as well as outdoor projects.

BTW, there are further some details on local woods like Tally (Sheesham) which is termite resistant and which is not.

i call it Wooden basket.

Believe me or not, the females know 101 methods how to decorate such things with different beautiful household items. And as bonus points, they keep replacing those items (which are put inside this basket) and then keep shifting the basket at different places at home too. Sometimes in kitchen, sometimes on dining table, sometimes in bedroom, and sometimes at the entrance door.
