huh,,,,,!! good going thread,,, don't have much knowledge about jeeps,, hence enjoying and reading top gear thread,,,
hope so it will perform well in desert too...
desert story same like my story,,, unsuccessful attempt to Fort nawankot...

Asim, my next wishlist in Cholistan is also Nawakot and Bijnot fort. Wanted to return in Feb but we friends were busy one week and the next and ultimately it was hot in late March to defer the plan to Dec.

Can you share some details about Nawakot please?

Absolutely Imran. Old models had 3 gears that required very high rpm to attain speed of over 100km/h and consequently fuel guzzlers. Later models have 4 AT gears with OD button that proved to be very helpful on inclines and descends. Yes it is pretty fast on two lane highways that require rapid acceleration for overtaking. I have tested thoroughly from Mansehra to Taxila.

660cc class ride jimny,miny pejero,kix never came with 3 gears.
they always 4 with auto and 5 with manual.
please come on naran trip instead of jeep ..............................

Now let's move to testing the performance. Please bear with me if you notice a "bongee". I have already stated at the start that I do not have any awareness of 4x4 except that before making decision for a 660cc SUV, I did a thorough review of specs that on papers appeared promising and before arrival of vehicle I had a detailed study of 1800cc Pajero IO's owners manual about what is 4x4 and when it is engaged.

On the day of delivery, importer's driver drove the vehicle to my home as I was driving my corolla. So the next morning I reversed the Kix from the car porch, drove it for the first time in the street, then to main road, a couple of kms ride and back to home.

Oh! everybody was right....it was not that fast, steering was a bit heavy. In D mode, it was not moving at all without pressing the pedal. My Boon 1000cc was moving in D without pressing the accelerator. But one thing was promising like its scratchless interior/exterior....... its body was also noiseless.

ABOUT PAKWHEELS CARSURE

I had a prepayment with Pakwheels for the Kix owing to non availability of owner's manual. It was a misunderstanding on my part that they will look underneath the vehicle and will tell me what are the specifications of differential and transfer oil. I also expected them to tell me the specs of gear oil.

But now my need was different, I wanted them to tell me why the vehicle is feeling heavy though the observation section on Japanese auction sheet was blank. Accordingly, I requested Carsure and particulalry told them to send the team that is knowledgeable about SUV.

Two guys from Carsure had the same observation about heavy feeling when they test drove the vehicle but did not comment further except that I have to wait for the report.

The report had a number of pointers indicating that they are not responsible enought to undertake such a sensitive inspection...it was not very hot day either, 1st week of April and a cloudy day.

In short, Carsure report raised two red flags; tire life of 45% that was apparent, no issue. But suspension/steering was rated at just 53%.

This was very surprising, so next morning I took the ride to a workshop run by an educated guy and I consider him comparatively good for all these suspensison steering related problems. I told him its steering is heavy, pickup is low and that it is not moving at D without pressing the pedal.

"Let's take a test drive". The moment he started the engine, he had a smile on his face "It is in 4x4 mode...its your first jeep experience". He switched back to rear wheel mode and we were first on the main road, then in the adjoining street and he concluded that there is no issue at all. I may consider changing the timing belt and lubricants.

On my way back was Mitsubishi Momentum Motors, so no harm in stopping by. They also cleared the vehicle with an advice to use the top notch lubricants and filters and it should not give you any trouble. AlhumduLillah.

It was the first time that day I asked my wife and kids for a ride on Kix. We had dinner followed by long ride along the canal road and then a test in the congested traffic in and around Fortress stadium.

It was rewarding experience:

1. It's pickup was greatly assisted by the turbo charger, even better than my XLI and 1000cc Boon/Passo, (I had sold just a few days before getting Kix's delivery).

2. Ride was comfortable on the front but bumpy rear (on the rough surface)...... overall it was comfortable with a touch of "rugged" feeling attached to any SUV.

3. But please bear in mind, this is two door vehicle and not ideal for families owing to limited leg room on the back seat. When we returned home my daughter aged ten said "baba please ask the uncle to give back our Boon". May be my three kids are too choosy as they keep on fighting even on the back of XLI when we are on trips to north.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

Why I could not notice 4WD icon on the dial? As I have indicated earlier, I have gone through the Pajero IO owners manual when Kix was shipped from Japan. If I remember correctly, it states that when 4WD mode is on, front wheels on the icon starts blinking. In the kix's case, icon was not blinking.

Anyhow, I sent an email to Carsure inquiring about the discrepancy. They only responded one as shown below. After that, they did not bother waking up even after my two reminders.

Carsure is worth?

Yes, they can tell accurately if the body is genuine or "jaynein"/painted. A big + point. They use a pen type device to detect as well as visual inspection.

They should check engine health by "compression test" rather than merely relying on engine sound.

They do not bother looking under the vehicle at least my two vehicles they inspected.

They check the ac gas pressure. Rest, checklist is pretty ordinary that a layman like me can inspect.

They do use scanner like Toyota authorized dealers. I have ordered one for DIY.
