Thanks bhai. Bismillah kurayn..... that tough patch on the entrance to Naran must be compacted by now by the coasters and mazdas. Naran bazar was very dirty, should be clean now.

I had two concerns about the 660cc SUVs (a) these can sustain constant high speed on motoways? and (b) what would be the rpm at 100km/h? Xli does 100 a 3000rpm and I prefer speed between 90-100.

So on Sunday night, I filled the fuel tank and picked up my friend from his home. The purpsoe was to overload the kix. When we started the test run, it's gross weight was approximately 1225kg, 25kg more than the recommended limit of 1200. Its kerb weight is 985kg.

We turned on the AC and drove to canal road, then thokar niaz baig and finally on Lahore bypass. After Ravi toll plaza, I pressed the pedal further. Its rpm was 3600 at 100km/h, not at all bad for a small engine given that xli does 100 at 3000. Then I pressed further and reached 120; a bit more and I felt remarkable turbulence and instability. At that point I reverted back a little to 110 and Kix was smooth again.

While going to Naran, I had kicked the Kix to 130+ but it was not that turbulent like it was that day near Kalashah Kaku interchange at 120. May be it was because of crosswinds.....i don't know.

Two observations:

1. SUV's commonly called "jeeps" here are not aerodynamic like cars......I felt significant wind resistance on motoway.

2. Kix has rapid acceleration up to 110. After that it takes time climbing to 120 and then 130+. Max speed is 140 on the dial and it was good that it can reach 135, though not safe for a tall vehicle with short wheelbase.

Going back to the first test run. We turned left on the interchange, then right and finally on KSK toll plaza from where we got flavor of highway response on GT road.

We then took a U turn on GT road and after 20km or so reached congested town of Shahdara. There was traffic jam at Ravi bridge also. I continued driving on the busy road, first bhatti gate, then lohari gate and then shah aalmi U turn from where I turned back to bhatti gate. Another left turn towards Government College and finally we stopped at Saltnpepper Mall Road for dinner.

I topped up the tank at the same pump and the result was 12km/L with AC on all the time and mix of motorway/highway/city driving.

Bhai this is the max I can stretch. You can see I am posting nonstop whenever I have time. I can jump right away to Naran section with colorful clicks but my key purpose of the thread is "awareness" that I have earned after spending.

What are your specific questions on Naran and Corolla? I am more than happy to answer. Soon I am moving to 2nd and final test run to Naran.

Finally I was confident about the Kix and it was time to spend some more money on the reg and the lubricants.

Car came with one key only and I must get a second one. I got a referral for Waris road Lahore where the mistry sb asked rs 4000 for the extra key. He pulled out a Pajero Mini key from their stock, attached a scanner to the Kix...and in the next 5 to 10 minutes he was pushing the hazard light button on and off with the scanner.

Key was programmed instantly and it was capable of all the functionality of the original one except the start. Mistry sb with a "bayshurmi wali" smile said, he had asked Rs 4000only for the programming and remote.... I just need to spend 400 more for the key.

Anyhow, I had the key prepared on the computer for Rs 1000...all in all 5000 for peace of mind.

WHEN FIRST TIME I ENGAGED 4H

For the remote key, I parked the car in front of a school where earth was filled the same day after laying pipes. It was not compacted yet. After I have paid for the key, i moved the Kix forward and all I noticed was the front right tire instantly sank somewhere.

I came out and noticed that a gutter has overflowed and the water was seeping into the that point that resulted in a bigger pothole. The two school guards took positions as they expected it to be a "tamasha". I thought "bizti time" for a 4x4 and myself.

Anyhow, i switched to 4H, set the reverse gear and the vehicle came out like a breeze.

I took delivery and their driver drove to my home as I was driving my other car. As it was dark already, I could also not get the engine number from them.

It is the time to get Kix registered and for that I need the engine number.

While going to my office, I drove to the importer's office and first inquired if they have received the user manual or at least one page showing the recommended lubricants. It was the first time that I received a negative response that they are not aware of any such thing and that everything is explained here and there inside the vehicle and with regard to needed quantity, it is mentioned on dipstick. The boy (one of the owners) who facilitated the import was on visit to KSA for Umra so I did not felt appropriate to respond to them.

Then I asked to give me the engine number with photo. Their two employees searched here and there and managed to read the number but could not take the photo. No problem, just write on a paper and stamp it. They went inside and then came back...why should we stamp it?....it is the responsibilty of excise department. Huh! do excise people come out of their offices to see the number or they are expert enough? It was a sensitive matter and I decided not to leave without sorting the matter out.

At last they managed to get the photo of the engine bay with the number and I was good to go. I knew someone at the excise and the registration process was completed without a bottleneck. Tax rates have been jacked up....In 2012 I have had paid rs 16,000 for 1000cc car, and now I paid rs 36,000 for a 660cc...insane.

After few days, I received a call that they have received pdf copy of the owner's manual and that I can collect in a usb. I wasted no time only to find that it was of Pajero IO that I have already downloaded from the web even before the arrival of Kix. They said Mitsubishi manufactures only two categories of SUV....big and small. IO & Mini are the same more or less. I started wondering, there is no difference in between a 1800cc vehicle and the one having 660cc engine.

I left their office in a courtesy but very disappointed....after all the person I was dealing with was not around. I wish he is following the thread, I wish he can feel why owner's manual is so important particulary for the imported vehicles. Even I could not get the OEM size oil filter, the only filter I have changed in the last 45 days. Detail to follow....

It's a matter of precision and customer service that is absent among us. There is a thread on pakwheels highlighting why gearboxes of a number of cvt vitz screwed up....just because they followed the word of mouth of mistry sb and authorized dealers and have them pump AT oil that needed CVT oil?

Like all of us, I have never opened the owners manual with the car...same is true with my corolla.....and time taught me that I have to be precise with my cars to avoid workshop visits. This car is maintained with OEM top notch parts and lubricants but I do visit other workshops for service. Zero meter Corolla was not pleasant to drive and knocking as well...... and Toyota Shaheen Motors service manager said it needs 10,000km run for the engine to open up and expose its full potential. Its mileage was also 8-9 in city....I was just going there asking them to put jaynein engine oil and filter. I surfed pakwheels and found that knocking is by default problem in this model and that 1300cc is a small engine for that big body.

Then on 10,000 km checkup, sevice manager took a test ride as engine has not opened up yet. He gave a one million rupee advice for free "run it on hioctane only and knocking willl disappear". Any how, I surfed the web and switched over first to Japanese tinpack of Toyota engine oil 10w-30 and then to "putla" oil 5w-30.....knocking removed significantly and the car was light to drive. Average climbed to 12 in city and 15+ on highway.

I changed the engine oil yet again when this imported toyota oil was selling at black rate of Rs 3800 in Dec last year. I switched over to a german renowned brand with the same viscosity of 5w-30 thinking to spend 400 rs more rather than dumping 3800 rs on an oil that was available for rs 3200.

After the oil change, I took the car to Cholistan and the car was like flying from Lahore to Ahmedpur East.... a completely refeshed experience first time after many years. Remaining bit of knocking disappeared thought there was no improvement in consumption.

See how lubricants matter.

Yesterday I have to go to Okara to visit a patient. Started at 230pm, highway was deserted as it was too hot. I returned home at 8:30pm.

AC performed excellent and on the way back, it was chilling. On this 275km return journey....Kix did 12.35km/L with AC on all the time.

What ever I have to do, I now have to do it myself. Looked inside and outside of the vehicle, all I could found was the spec of brake oil and tyre pressure. Went to workshop and with the workshop owner minutely inspected the differentials but there was no clue of recommended oil, though all oils were clean, may be previous owner had changed at 50,000km.

Thoroughly surfed the web and found the recommended oils and quantities on two websites, one was Russian and the other one British. Then I found some stuff on a Japanese site that I got it translated from a friend in Islamabad, his boss is japanese.

For now I only have to change the engine oil and filter before a trip to Naran.

TIME TO GO TO NARAN FOR A FINAL TEST RIDE

I had asked a boy who is tour operator to alert me when road to Naran is open. In the past, I have always been to Naran during the 3 or 4th week after the access through glaciers was cleared. I wanted to test the 4x4 potential and also to estimate if Kix can sustain long stretches of motorway for hours at speed of upto 100km/h.

The day he confirmed, I was at Filterhouse ferozepur road Lahore for engine oil and oil filter change. Many people have recommended that filterhouse has all the filters for Mini Pajero and therefore I have to go there. They claimed they have two brands of oil filters one of rs 450 and the other one of rs 850.

As usual, filterhouse sales boy started insisting to buy the cheaper one as it is far better than the one that has price tag of rs 850.They dont bother the interest of customers but have the tendency to prefer selling brands where they have more profit.

First of all conratulates on buying a new vehicle, nice narration of thread and good awareness for all.
Toyota is providing locally blended, low specs engine oil which in my opinion losses its properties below 2000Kms.I have been using Shell HX-7 since i buyed 2010 GLi, still have no complaints about milage or knocking. Engine is still soundless done 105000Kms, including more than 40,000 on highways and motorways. I took 7 times my ride to long tours and never faced single problem from any side. Reasons which I thinks are;
1. I never asked mistri gee to find out problem or suggest any thing for my vehicle, since I am an engineer and I am driving it every day,therefore, I know my ride more than any one else.
2. I only take recommendations from its manual and describe it to toyota service advisor myself about what checkups are required during any maintenance.
3. 99.9% milage done by myself even dont allow Valet or any other driver under any circumstances to drive my car.
4. last but not the least I take care of it like my part of body.
