Navigation, Leather Seats and Tyres - VTi Oriel

Hi PakWheelers,

So I am out of country and planning on buying the new Civic. Since, I cannot checkout the car myself (and getting some confused answers from my dad who visited the showroom), I'll put my questions here, would really appreciate some help from Civic owners:

1. Navigation - What is the head unit like without any navigation? I don't want any rear seat entertainment but don't know the difference between navigation and the standard unit (assuming there is a standard unit )
2. Leather Seats - Are they worth the extra money? Are they proper leather seats OR just leatherite covers? Any effect on comfort?
3. Tyres - A friend told me the tyres are still General but better quality. Is that true? How would you rate them against what we get in Corolla? If I think of replacing them, roughly how much will that cost?
4. Facelift - I know this is always based on speculation, but curious what are the rumors? Is it expected this year?

Navigation system is standard unit or if you don’t want that you have to buy from the market don’t spend extra bucks on leather seats covers. Tyres are pretty good but it all depends upon your choice n drive.

1. The positive point of OEM navigation system is that it has very good sound quality. The back camera has excellent result. Its screen size is 7 inches. The one available in market has 9 inches screen and it blocks the center air vents.
   The negative thing is it is an android based device but you cannot use it like your cell phone because its too slow.
   If you need back camera i would suggest go for it to avoid all the wiring and ripping apart of new car dashboard for after market installation. If you dont go for it you will get a simple CD player I am not sure if it has usb and memory card option.

2. Dont go for leather seats as it is not leather but leatherite or the professional guys call it microfiber. The seats are very hard. Comparatively fabric seats are soft and more comfortable
   You can get excellent quality leatherite or fabric(same cloth as the OEM) seat covers in 15K.

3. Tyres are average. You hear humming noise on a smooth road. But still better than usual general tyres.
   If you want to sell them right after car delivery you can get 15 to 20k for them. Good branded tyres of the same size cost between 55k to 65k.

4. Facelift launch are just rumours yet.

@ag3ntx So you are implying that if I don't go for navigation, I won't get cameras either? That sucks, I just thought that Navigation unit will be the same thing as standard but only with a Navigation app and maybe some cellular connectivity. I thought that was a reasonable deduction since it said Navigation Or maybe what you are saying is there will be a back-up camera, just not hooked up to anything? Also on a sidenote, Navigation has Apple Carplay?

The navigation system has slots for memory card, usb, aux, ipod. I am not sure if is supports apple car play

If you get the civic WITHOUT navigation and then get a third party to install a unit does it affect your warranty ?

Also the leather option also means leather finish for the Centre armrest and the side doors - otherwise it’s a beige fabric.

I’m also planning to book a civic X soon and had the exact same qs.

+1 on this question myself, FWIW, before I was confused b/w Civic/Altis 1.6, now I am more convinced, that for a very occasional use case like mine, I should just go with Altis and get done with it. Based on what I could muster up from my youtube scouting, Civic has a better interior with bad quality, and gets pricier when you start putting in the basic things. ooh, and the morons have no idea how to make a website ... (not that IMC is much better)

Grande compares to civic..not 1.6 bro.get grande and you wil get a lot of extra useful features plus best build quality in local cars

Hey brother i m having mashallah three civics ridiculous pathetic experience which i have faced is the steering problem i would prefer u to buy toyota altis grande
Their navigation sys is good than the standard one cuz it doesnt come with dvd option and the back cam
Second tyres are pathetic to noisy plus faulty
Third bullshit leather seats they are not even like leather uncomfortable hard seats

Its not tht i m against the brand honda its all about when u are paying them 30 lacs and then u get these list of faults u get disappoint it seems like u have thrown away ur money

Navigation is not brilliant but better than civic due to size and sound quality due to 4 speakers and 2 Tweeters. System takes sim as well which is useful..u get 6 months Toyota connect.. which is good. Car has multiple charging ports for both front and back as well.

I had the same questions Civic vs ALtis Grande and this is why im leaning towards the civic:

• exterior design - no comparison. the civic looks great. the corolla looks old and boring. (in my opinion).
• civic has rear AC vents which is pretty cool; plus the interior looks luxurious especially with the leather interior option.
• I also felt the civic is more roomy. I test drive my friends 1.5 Turbo and with both of us in the front seat it was very roomy.
• I test drove an altis grande and it with a passenger it semeed much smaller.
• also in the altis the driver leg room seemed cramped as in my left left leg kept hitting the pedals... when it really shoulldnt but you might want to test it yourself.
• also the beige interior of the altis i dont like - thats subjective but i prefer the interior of the civic.
• the civic seats are lower and might be an issue for lumber support (back) however three of my friends have the civic and they say its ok. plus you can always get an exterior lumbar support ...
• no ugly physical handbrake!! did i mention the interior is so much better
• smart entry on the passenger side as well! ALtis only has it on the driver seat
• I think the altis only has passenger height adjusting seats? not sure but not much of a concern for me.
• i have read that the altis navigation is faster and better and you can use google maps.

the few things that I with the Civic had from the altis
- ability to run google maps properly ..... altis has a sim slot if i read correctly.
- i think when youre altis goes past 20 KM the car will autolock...

the other stuff which the altis has but not such an issue for me personally
- reverse adjusting mirrors (pretty cool but not a reason for me to get this over the civic)
- auto leveling leds (not even sure what that is!!!)
- White lights vs the yellow lights (im guessing its the LED vs halogen etc etc)
- think when you park the car the rear view mirrors of the toyota fold in automatically

so im still sold on the civic mainly because of the interior, design and I really like the drive of it.... however I still want to test drive the altis for longer since I only did a 1 km or 2 with it.

Once you get used to the seats of new civic u will love them. On day one when i drove the car out of the showroom i was kind of upset because the seats felt low. But now after using it for a few months I feel very comfortable in it. The low seats of civic are proper bucket type and the added leg space lets you relax very well. Whenever I sit in my old car which is a civic 2010 my hand reaches for the height adjustment lever in an intention to lower the seat which is already set to the lowest point!. The only drawback in the new civic which I have noticed is that you have to put a little more effort to get out of the car.

One more thing, civic doors are automatically locked at 15 km/hr.

Try sitting on the front passenger seat of Civic for a long journey and you'll understand. lower back is bound to give issues especially for elder people. Its a common problem, ask those who face this misery

Someone above said Civic's rear legroom is larger than Altis. Another misconception; most of the legroom for Civic is eaten up by its floor hump, Grande doesn't have one + also has rear adjustable seats.

And I fail to understand people so obsessed with optics that they judge cars based solely on looks.

Grande 2ZR engine is new vs Civic 1.8 R18 which has been coming since 2006 Reborn!

Grande CVTi gearbox is miles and miles ahead of Civic's CVT due to its artificial shifting sensation rather than boring drag of Civic's gearbox. Also, the paddle shifters are a cherry on top for the rolla!

There is an easy connect app which kind of works like carplay./ Android auto..though slow...i used it with my android for navigation and was just ok.. not fun
