Nikon DSLR D7000 vs Nikon DSLR D5100

I think now i should also switch to DSLR while i am not busy Photographer as sometimes even for months cannot Power On the Camera. While already i am using SONY DSC T10 from last 5 Years.

Lets discuss about the Topic Heading:
I want to compare and reach final conclusion for the Nikon 2 DSLRs D7000 and D5100.
I know both are not falling in same category as D7000 is Semi Pro DSLR while D5100 is Entry Level DSLR but both have alot of similarities as same Sensor/Processor and blah blah while difference also, but i want to take your comments on both of DSLR.
As from D5100 not able to Witness some good shots been taken while D7000 already doing great in hands of @VCheng.

My Area of Interests are:
1. Macro
2. Landscapes
3. Clouds

portraits or anything else is occasionally. Please also confirm the prices of both especially for D7000 Body only as i dont like the 18-105 /w Lens Kit being offered with Camera.

a friend of mine just bought d5100 with kit 18-55mm lens for 67K

i am looking to upgrade to d7000 and the price i got is 124K with kit lens 18-105mm and around 97 K for body only in lahore.

d7000 is faster then d5100 , more fps , less shutter lag ,more cross-type focus points , built in motor ,6 fs vs the 4 fs of d5100 .

but i guess d5100 is best for you by looking at your interest. and the Flip-out screen might help you in macro shots .

sensor is same for all the 3 models the d3100,d5100 and the d7000 . but the image quality and the iso sensitivity of all the 3 is different , the higher you pay the more good quality you get

D3100 has different sensor; D5100 and D7000 share the same sensor and thus same IQ and ISO sensitivity etc.

Being a car site; think of it like 1.6GLi-AT and Altis share the same engine; therefore same acceleration and top speed etc; but its the feature set that makes the two expereinces different. More focus points and more cross type focus points; better shutter etc make D7000 better!

D5100 and D7000 are almost same with D7000 with some added plus. D5100 would do the job for you.

Articulated Screen do helps in Micro but the thing to take Photograph by the View Finder Eye Piece is just amazing, while the man thing which attracts me to D5100 is its price and better ISO Performance although fps will be of no use when you come to shoot in RAW, as the buffer gonna full very soon.

While the D7000 Urge is coming from inside me as once i spent in it it will be with me for some time, as the Top mounted LCD is helpful in the normal View Finder and Dual SD Slots, and Magnesium Alloy Back and Top and Weather Proof.

Also the image quality of the D7000 i have came across is brilliant as can be checked in the @VCheng thread and also on Internet and Camera have got some nice awards also since its announced.

There's some thing about lenses in which both differ. I dont know about lenses or lens mounts so it'll be better if you google it. If you're interested in live view than D7k is better in this respect.

i have the nikon d7000...
i think its a very good camera and is better then 5100 IF YOU PLAN TO DO SPORTS photography.
the added FPS, More AF points , Dual Card slots etc are more for sports type shooting.

5100 is cheaper and has the same image quality as the d7000 BUT it doesnt have a built in motor drive... which means the cheapers and old "D" lens will not be able to Auto Focus

EXAMPLE
the cheap 50mm F1.8 D lens is the sharpest and cheapest of nikon lens... it auto focus on d7000 but will not do it on the D5100.

therefore i think the trade in is simple

NIKON 5100 = If you are not planning to get into "more lens" or serious shoots.
NIKON D7000= if you plan to upgrade your equipments in the future.

d7000 is certainly better , having the same sensor doesnt make both sam, its the added features hich the d7000 has.....
and 50mm f1.8g is for 22-24k, wheras the the older version of this lens 50mm 1.8d is for 11k..

The D7000 has Built In Auto Focus Motor while on lens mount they have nothing different as the Old lens cannot go for Autofocus if mounted on the D5100, as it depends upon CPU Power Auto Focus Lenses which are bit costly while other old ones are Cheap, also many other Brands are tested with D7000 and in Noise its Super in Image Quality.

Still in Islamabad cannot find the Body only deal as its on 125k with 18-105/w Lens Kit but i am not interested in that lens at all. Also need to build the cash more as i am more inclined toward the D7000 as i will go for the future equipment for shoot out as the camera gonna stay with me for some time. :B

Another big thing is the battery life of the D7000 its almost double to D5100 and Auto Focus points which are double, while Weather Proof and Magnesium Alloy is added benefit like the Semi Pro or Pro Cams.

I am looking for more and better suggestions as i am yet open to purchase while i think currently many users are looking for the D7000 upgrade or the purchasing and confused in between D5100 and D7000.

Certainly thats a big thing to think about as the DSLR World without Lens addition is Mess and ends up in Frustration as Lens Cost can be even same or double at the end of Maths

Actually, the long life of the battery makes even a spare battery quite redundant, let alone a powerpack, for the D7K.

Out of curiousity; have you considered Canon's 7D?

Its faster shutter; dual processing power; well established lens mount; more and faster focus points; even better viewfinder and much cheaper lenses availability are not easy to strike it out that easily?

Thanks for Syggestion, While you are a Canon Boy but already i am going through a Review of the 7D on dpreview, but till now i havent been in Canon House as to noise aspects i am not impressed with canon but will consider how much price it is available and how about the lens kit with package.

50mm 1.8d and along with it many other cheap lens will not auto focus on the d5100. also the viewfinder is very basic on the d5100.

i have both the canon and nikon systems ... i think cameras are better on nikons where as lens are better on canon

anyway but if u plan to get a camera, get the nikon d7000. and the 18-105 is a very good "kit" lens... i used it and the sharpness is very good for what it costs....

Instead of the kit lens, I would suggest a Sigma 18-200 as the first lens on the D7K.

yes i have heard alot about the sigma 18-200mm ... alot of shopowners said that it is better then the nikon 18-200mm... one of the pros magazine also said it... but online, i dont see much about it...
