Nikon DSLR D7000 vs Nikon DSLR D5100

The next big thing is expected to be Canon 5D MKIII and naturally the prices of 5D MKII will go down. But this is only the rumour and i love such rumours lol

We don't have to wait till announcement of newer model as prices of MKII are already down from $2500-2600 to $2000-2100 in last two weeks.

My xmas present would be 60D with quite some discounted rates 7D is too expensive for the improvements it offers and not the best value deal.

But i gonna buy the lenses now for full frame perspective as i can already feel myself heading there in next 2,3 years

IMHO, i would prefer to wait for the newer 5D MKIII as MKII needs improvements in quite some areas.

I also seriously considered switching altogether to Nikon D7000 or Pentax K-5 but could not work out an affordable yet top class lens combination beyond kit lenses as compared to Canon.

Definitely the Sigma 18-200 is good Lens to start but here the Customization is not available as in Islamabad no one offering even Body Only Option as i must purchase the 18-105 kits lens package :(. While if you want to sell them thy accept it on the **** Price

How about any know Oil Splashing issue for D7k as i came across such information in one Forum for D7k

Full Frame sensors are on the D700 and above, with a D700 replacement just around the corner. Be prepared for costly lenses though.

If you have to get the kit 18-105, then see if you can add the Nikon 70-300 to the deal. That combo will work out great too.

The Nikon factory in Sendai has some QA issues after the tsunami, but they will soon be resolved I am sure.

Yup this one is way better than Canon version but i am thinking of a dedicated wide angle, a walk around and a proper tele zoom with good quality.

Somehow i feel that primes are not for me though zooms can't beat them in quality.

The big boys are in 'untouchable price zone' of beyond $4,000 including Canon 1Ds series and Nikon D3 series.

While a bit practical dream may be built up for Canon 5D MKII which is around $2200 these days or Nikon D700 which is a bit expensive around $2,700.

But both these models came in 2008 and replacements in 2012 are a very high possibility. So, if i am considering a full frame upgrade then i will wait for the newer models to be released.

Have you taken a look at Canon's 24mm f/2.8 and 28mm f/1.8 USM? 28 is irresistable with its USM and f/1.8 goodness; moderately heavy on pocket but neither heavy in weight and nor that big!

be ready for some serious money ..... the mark II looks good with only L lens.... which are sky rocking priced....
i have managed to get the 24-105 f4 L and the 70-200mm L f4 USM...
along with a Nikon D7000 + 18-200mm VR II.

I am using 50mm f1.8 right now but most of the time i prefer a zoom on my cam than 50mm unless for some specific shot i really need the bokeh.

So following my shooting habits and tendency, i will avoid investing in top level primes.

primes are lens which gives u image quality next to none. no zoom can match the quality provided by the primes....
a 50mm on a crop will be about 80mm.... you should try a 100mm prime that would be great....

How about SONY Alpha as i read something very good about them and also they are cheap as compared to Nikon and Canon as on dpreview they have score even better then many of them. especially i got S77 and A580 as our Nikon also hold the SONY Sensor. Whats the main limitation or big No in them.

For portraits Prime is best but for normal mixed bag of Photography your need some thing 18-200 or till your pocket can allow. Like if you are in Zoo and wants to take a pic of Lion/Bear you cannot walk to him rather need Zoom to take the picture so here the Prime can be big no until you need to crop it. Prime is good in Image Quality but many conditions do fails them but should also be part of Gear

sony cameras suck... i had a chance to play with the alpha a77... the viewfinder is like a screen inside a hole.... not really very good... and the controls are very sluggish.. its not on the spot , there is a very annoying lag to each function. also i have seeen many comparasion photoes, the a77 sensor fails in high iso.

i have a 24-105L , 70-200L and a 50mm prime. thts pretty much everything i need ofr my ff.
and for my d7000, i just have a 18-200 vrII lens.
i like both the cameras and would recommend both... the d7000 is small and lightbut the mark II has its own "shashka"

But on Paper SONY is nice but no doubt it needs to Improve in DSLR, as Sensors are very nice from SONY but i think they are having issue in Glass, You have some nice Supporting Gadgets, But Mark II Shashka can make the Bank Depleted

Not really, there are some really nice Sony glass out there, they also compatible with Minolta lens. The problem is their translucent mirror technology which is good for vedio focusing but not good for high ISo noise shots.
One simple question is ...
Do u think your eyes can see better or a high articulated screen? Obviously no screen in the world can be comPared to ur eye sight... Which is why dslr are better then translucent mirror.

^This or if you want to stay with nikkor lens only then this combo works for me 35mm+70-300mm.

D7000 over d5100 just because of better built quality and better handling.

18105vr is a very decent kit lens. unless you need one lens convenience (18-200), there's no need to worry about 18 105, add a 70-300VR or 35/1.8DX latter.

I agree with you 18-105vr kit lens is very sharp lens, i used it and loved it.
