Nissan AD VY11, QG13DE, Engine Head Problem (Plz Advice)

No codes were checked till yet, so is the RPM values, AD van does not have an RPM meter in its cluster.However check engine light went ON when I drive the car on CNG and went OFF when I used it on petrol for few days. Currently, from the last one week I am running car on petrol and check light is OFF. I think if any sensor malfunctions the check light should not went OFF.

One more thing, the exhaust sound at exhaust tip is not continuous, it has the sound of that misfiring (Phak Phak sound). Last time when engine head was rebuild the same sound was there which vanishes after rebuild work.

I am willing to go to Jamil autos tomorrow in-sha Allah, ask him to connect the scan tool and pop out codes if any, lets see what it shows.

I won't suggest to go for engine work unless it is 100% sure that there are no sensor / vacuum leak problems. Many faults don't trigger check engine light, but still cause considerable trouble (Some vacuum leaks are one of them).

Consider procuring a Elm 327 bluetooth adapter and you can check all live sensor values on your mobile phone...!!! (Cost around Rs. 1000-1200; My Sunny doesn't have RPM meter, but with ELM connected all the time, I get RPM, MAF reading, Engine temp, error codes, fuel trims, O2 values and all other information...)

P.S: Changing Exaust sound can be due to inconsistent RPMs due to vacuum leaks. Very low RPMs cause body vibration and exaust vibrations, and exaust sound can get changed at that time.

You are absolutely right @isbcap, I also wouldn't go for head work unless pretty sure of valve seat issue. Vacuum leaks could be a matter, I will check it thoroughly. The idle RPM is not what it suppose to be, it is less than normal on both petrol and CNG.

I will go for compression test of each cylinder first, post the result up here then i'll go for a decision.

I am interested in ELM 327 blue tooth adapter, but from where I can procure this, the price and functions you mentioned are very right, is it compatible with the port on my car I think mine is OBDII (well I am not sure about it, I can paste a picture tomorrow morning). Is this device can help me in changing engine parameters like idle RPM etc.

I also want to change the meter cluster with some Nissan Sunny N19 Auto cluster, so that I can keep an eye on RPM. The dash board and ECU of both cars are same. Can it be directly plugged into my car or do we have to make some modification etc.

This proves that engine is misfiring.

You are right in a way @ahmed2396. The engine seems to be misfiring, loss of power is there, throttle response is sluggish. But there could be many other things that can create these symptoms, like vacuum leak, some sensor malfunctioning etc.

You should get it scanned, and post up the codes you got.

I would suggest to get it scanned for codes before going for compression testing. Check olx for ELM 327 bluetooth. Make sure you get version 1.5 and not version 2.1 (it doesn't work on Nissan).

Once you get one, install HobDrive and NDS2 lite apps from play store. It will also show live RPM , so no need for meter stuff...

This one won't work (as per Nissan datascan website, I don't have a link right now, google it). You can try finding elm mini. ( I ordered from aliexpress, and it did cost me around Rs. 600. But it takes around 20-25 days to reach Pakistan and some times orders are lost in the way. Try negotiation the price near Rs. 1000

The procurement of ELM 327 is really a mess. The Chinese fakes are flooding in the market with price range from Rs.1300 to Rs.1800 (all claiming their products genuine). Many importers/retailers on OLX, which also claimed their products genuine costing around Rs.4500 (fixed), same is the story with ELM 327 mini. No one returns the product once its sold, its upto the fortune of the purchaser. The Hob Drive full version is available on play store @ Rs.2200. So if we go for genuine ELM with Hob drive, its gonna cost around Rs.6700.

I am confused, whether go for ELM or some Autel scan tool. IMO The level of diagnosis is much better in above mentioned scan tools as compared to ELM.

Yesterday visited Jamil Autos, perform compression test (dry), get it scanned through Launch, replace spark plugs & ATF.

Compression readings:

Cylinder 1 (Belt side) = 160 psi
Cylinder 2 = 170 psi
Cylinder 3 = 185 psi
Cylinder 4 (gear side)= 190 psi

Following codes were retrieved.

Spark Plugs condition:

Replace ATF with AISIN (korea) cost is Rs.450/liter, Nissan ATF is not available all over tariq road market, however it is available at Munir Autos, Plaza at 6200 for 4 liter can :'(.

The mechanic suggested me to visit Malik Engineering, plaza for further diagnostic and CUT on shims if required to adjust valve clearance of at least cylinder 1 and 2.

May I go for this CUT?

Before last head rebuild, the exhaust valves of cylinder 1 were in pretty burned condition as compared to cylinder 2 (fair), 3 (good) and 4 (better than good). Cylinder 4 seats were apparently in nice condition with very slight burn marks. This time the compression test results reflects the same story. Is belt side cylinders produces more heat or some thing or its just a coincidence.

First code means faulty ignition coils. And I suspect 2nd code is the result of first code (I think due to faulty coils, cylinder misfiring is occurring, experts may comment on it).

3rd code seems faulty O2 sensor or its connection problems.

P.S: Cylinder misfire may also be due to mechanical problems, and ECU may set the first code due to this problem as well. These two codes are inter related. So sorting one problem will solve the other one, too.

Your cylinders have too much variance in compression as cyl1: 160psi and cyl2: 190psi, so it shows a problem. Not more than 10psi difference in compression should be there.

P1320: problem with ign coil, can be faulty ckp too.
P0300: random cyl misfire, incorrect fuel pressure, bad cyl compression, intake leaks
P0130: O2 malfunction, replace O2

We interchange coils from different cylinders, but result remains same. When I disconnect cylinder 1 input, very slight vibration is observed as compared to cylinder 4 which shakes the engine. IMO, the problem seems more mechanical than electrical.

The O2 sensor code pop up due to usage of CNG, when the engine was healthy it turn OFF when used on petrol for 200 to 300 kms and again went ON with in 10 kms usage on CNG.
