 The gearshift lever/stick is wrong for the car. This is a much later unit off a different breed of VW. The heater knob was taken off by kids messing with the bug here but fortunately was recovered from under the front seat where it probably fell....those meddling kids!

Just imagine the lenghts to which the previous owner went to to bastardise this VW. This handbrake lever is post 67. Its similar to the earlier item, just a little shorter. Why would someone want to replace this item??? Answer: because he was idiotic enough to replace the gear stick, pedals etc etc.....

This is the post 72 four spoke steering with the horn pad removed. I am pointing towards the inner concertina mechanism. This is designed to break in case the driver impacts with the 'wheel. A similar concertina is also present in all post 68 steering column rods. Safety.

Damn! The post 72 steering column meant more butchery. Another buggered area. The mounts are different so this area has been altered to suit.

Rear fender off. Surprisingly it was easy to unbolt the fenders off. It did not require the use of a torch.....

The post 68 rear clip has been grafted on very neatly.....

If you want to fit a post 63 VW engine in an earlier VW, the engine bay has to be cut to accomodate the newer heater boxes. See whats been done here.......

this beetle must be thanking the gods of wolfsburg that it ended up with you,.. the previous owner(s) have really butchered this car... and what i don't get is how they took all the good/rare stuff off and fit later model stuff. people like this should be shot for doing such things,.. aren't there enought jap cars out ther ewhich they could mutilate??? glad to hear basit is up and running and that his new setup is active now. let us know how the resto goes from here on,.. really looking forward to this thread being updated.

  This bug is the first VW I rescued from certain death. To tell you the truth, I did not like it the first time I saw it and had asked the scrapper to go ahead with the scrapping. He had however convinced me to buy the bug off him as according to him it had many juicy parts and great potential.

 The only thing good about all these 'alterations' is the fact that each and every part used is genuine VW (apart from a universal rearview mirror I binned ages ago). A local VW specialist who inspected the car thoroughly refused to believe it was a 59 and had so many alterations. 

Dare I say we have to appreciate the clean grafts on the front and rear sections??

At last a new dawn breaks for a promising new life for this bug.

It has been delivered to Basit denter on 20th of this month for a body off resto. For people who are not aware, Basit is Karachi's topmost VW specialist denter. He is pricy but his work is the best the city has to offer.

I do have some old pics somewhere on my system which need posting apart from some fresh ones.
