Oil Change interval in Pakistan is a SCAM

Hey guys. I come from overseas. I am a student now in Pakistan. I have moved in with my family except my dad who still works in overseas.
So we bought a new car and got its oil changed from a reputable oil shop. We were surprised to note that the intervals for oil change most of them recommend is 5000km which i believe is somewhat a scam although we use 100% synthetic oil from Total which we also used in our cars overseas . We checked the
owners manual finding out the intervals were at 5000km or 6 months whereas overseas they tell you change at 10,000km city use and 15,000km if you use motorway regularly or once a year. Either way we thought maybe the climate and the rough driving conditions and traffic of Pakistan might be the cause but it should not reduce the intervals by 50%. Also in India most cars of same model also recommend 10,000km oil change and no one is complaining! Guys what can we do?

Please mention some cars with 10,000 Kms drain intervals, which were driven by you in Overseas, and also the cars, which you are currently driving in Pakistan, so as to make some fair comparison.

Interestingly, the owner's manual of the local Khyber used to recommend a 6000 km interval back in the 90's (10w-30 to 20w50).

To add to the debate, I noticed on my visit to Suzuki 3s (Sethi motors, ferozepur Road, Lahore) last week that Suzuki has updated its service interval recommendation for Swift, Cultus and WagonR from 5,0000 km to 10,000 km (bulletin was dated January 2020).

All cars that use fully synthetic oil like my 2500cc SUV. Our previous car was a Toyota corolla 1600cc
K drive a 2015 JDM WagonR. The interval under the hood is 10,000km too

I dont know which country you were residing at however I stay in UAE and own a Mitsubishi Pajero 3.8 ( 3800CC )GLS Top of the Line, as per manual and even told by the dealership that best is to change the oil at an interval of 5000KM.

There was a new law implemented by the UAE govt i think around 2015-16 that dealerships and workshop will give oil change intervals of 10,000km instead of 5000km from the ministry of economy or environmental or something like that.

Bro like suzuki celerio, its recommended interval in india and Thailand is 10k kms/6 months in normal conditions and 7500 in case of severe conditions (using fully synthetic 0w20)
But in pak cultus recommended interval is 3 months/5000kms

Yes however as per UAE conditions we had to do it at 5000KM.

Exactly! Usually lubricant manufacturing or development is done in US or Uk ( i might be wrong ). But these countries use miles . Instead of proper mile—-> km conversion they consider both units the sane

I have 660cc WagonR but i change my oil at 6000km
Reason for changing less than 10,000km recommended
1. Using cheap filters like Guard. They are ok filters for their money but wont use them for long intervals. I am also too busy to search the market for genuine Suzuki japani oil filter . It is not important to use the car brand ones but you can use Denso,Ac-Delco,Bosch etc if you want to go longer
2. These 660cc’s rev like mad for slightest throttle. U need to rev like 3000rpm to reach 80 km/h without disturbing the drivers from coming from behind.
My daily commute usually happens on Canal Road Lahore where car is less rough driven and get better fuel economy as compared to inner city like ghari shahu etc.

In a society where fraud and counterfeit goods are rampant, it is difficult to get anyone to trust anything. Unless that changes in any meaningful way, the situation that concerns you will not really change.

There is a well known thread on pakwheels about Guard filter teardown, you can search for it - it is undoubtedly a high quality filter, better than 'vilayati maal' Leppon.
