Well this topic got off topic . It is supposed to be about oil change intervals but talking about oil viscosity is also great as this is also a common problem here. So guys why do mechanics after engine haul recommend the thickest oil in the market
Is your engine clocking over 100,000kms?
Is your engine burning oil ?
Is your engine leaking oil?
Have you overhauled your engine?

So how did it probably start ? Did lube shops try to sell remaining stocks of thicker oils because they were less in demand but then the demand increased and we still have them just like 20 years ago. These heavy weight oils are still used in trucks or motorcycles though.
