Oil Change - Some Questions

I have recently purchased a City 2006. The odo shows 13k. Planning for a oil change so checked the owners manual which showed Honda engine oil. As i was using Caltex Havoline for my Mehran, i was planning to use the same for City. Now my collegue told me to use Zic A+ (Synthatic) as its the best engine oil available in the market.

1. Now the question is which engine oil shall I go for?

a. Honda Engine Oil
b. Caltex
c. Zic A+ (Synthetic)

1. Also after how many kilometers shall i change the oil. The manual says 5k, but people say around 3k.

2. Also if I use Synthatic oil and then want to come back to mineral oil, Is there any problem?

ZIC is good because its synthetic, and high quality, and the most important thing is the chances of geting a fake or used bottle of oil by using ZIC is very low.

Avoid using branded oils such as Honda or Toyota, who knows what kind of crap that is.

If you use ZIC, then you should stick with synthetic.

And any oil change should be 5,000 KM or 3,000 MILES!!! (not 3000 KM). If your using CNG AND Synthetic oil, you can easily make it 7,000 km.

no doubt ZIC A+ is the best engine oil.
CALTEX HAVOLINE is also not bad.

replace ur oil after 5000 kms.

my vote is for HAVOLINE.

Well I changed the oil and as recommended by you people I used Zic A+. It was for Rs. 1195 (4 liters).

Havoline formula was Rs 1100.

I dont know but for my 03 civic vti ive been using Honda "Genuine" Oil after every 3k cuz i personally see its dirty.
Same wiht Toyota,,use Toyota "Genuine" Motor Oil.

hello there!

I have done quite a bit of research and the conclusion which I have drawn is that Honda Genuine Engine Oil is very good option for your car!

I am saying this because Honda Genuine Oil is made by Caltex and it is Havoline.........with the specifications of SAE10W30 and SL grade. It is NOT synthetic, it is mineral based but it is still a great option

As far as the ZIC A+ you are talking about, it is called Synthetic Oil, however belongs to Group III and it is not from the group IV which is the actual synthetic oil.

It is highly recommended that you change your engine oil and oil filter at 5000 KM and not extend it beyond this point over here.

man both havoline and ZIC A+ are best engine oils better than shell etc etc ZIC edges to few points anyway oil should be changed regularly by 3k KMS

bro as u saying honda genuine oil is mineral oil .. vice versa ....oil provided by TOYOTA INDUS .....i.e Tmo 2000 SL/CF 20W-50 IS also a normal mineral oil ????plzzz tell me if u have also knowledge abt this......

EVERYWHERE u will find oil change after 3,000 miles ( which is equivalent to 5,000 km)

our pupil dont read complete, they just see 3,000 figure & make it mark but plz, read completelt it is 3,000 miles

If U go thru the manual of Toyota Corolla it sugests that any oil which has the rating of Api SL and above can be changed at 10,000 km interval.

As far as ZIC A+ synthetic is concerned it is no where near as good as Shell Helix Ultra or Mobil 1.

Its better to use Havoline Formla Oil than any ZIC Oil.

I fully agree with @Portage1 (use Synthatic oil and you don't have to change oil every 3000 miles........now they call it for every 5000 miles which is 5000 miles *1.646=8230 Km).

The other benefits are : It will extend your engine life, excellent fuel economy, and the main thing it will keep your engine components clean without sludge.

Using regular mineral oil will cause sludge in your engine. Therefore engine will die sooner than later.

I suggest stick with synthatic oil..

Synthetic oils are new tech and give more mileage and better performance. Should be purchased from authorized places like company operated petrol pumps.
As far as oil change pd is concerned although car manuals recommend around 7000-8000kms but also advice about local conditions. Well I think, keeping in view the normal road conditions (traffic jams etc) and the quantity of dust and pollution in the atmosphere in our county one should change the oil between 4000-5000kms depending upon the road conditions in your area.
