I went today at GPO lahore and they told me duty on mobile phone is fixed as customs weren't having enough collection before................

which city?
i called islamabad IMO n i asked them about duty on mobiles he told me the percentage, i dont remember exactly but it wasnt much,some where between 10-20%

i remember some1 ordered a cell of worth 22k from fsd n paid duty of 2.5k

Even weirdly guy was telling me that no matter what you import the tax and duty now is fixed. Even you import an iPhone duty will still be same as cheap phone.

Yes it is custom duty only. We will have to find out sales tax rates and withholding income tax plus excise and other charges.

Yes, I went there today at Lahore GPO. Insisted that guy there should not be this much duty. But they didn't listened. What else I can do? Nothing just nothing. He says no matter what mobile you import we have now fixed duty. You must pay this much.

Even I showed him Aliexpress print out but he insisted this much duty must be paid. As now they have fixed it due to not enough tax collection on mobiles at GPO.

Did they give you any signed custom document ?

Usually that document is called custom goods declaration which is a proof that the item has been legally imported in Pakistan. This document includes the full breakup of all taxes charged for legalization of imported item.

It is cd 250 Rs on small sets but on smartphones it is 500 Rs and more than 25 percent (i think 30%) is i.tax+s.tax etc and regulatory duty 200 each peice.
But officer who puts duty and taxes he can accept or reject the invoice and put duty according to previously imported handsets which have record in system.

They don't know anything dear... Blind people are there who wants money only.
They can release anything and they can detain it if you do not settle matter by giving bribe.

I even asked about that chai pani way but they insist it is fixed. I asked two additional post office workers too but they say duties on phones have been made fixed now and they can't do anything.

If they have given you document then it is ok if not then it could be officer who kept money from it.

They wrote It on a tax sheet then placed signatures and stamps and then asked me to submit to package branch. They were even saying you are lucky for noc As PTA isn't giving that too. What else you expect? This is how Pakistan works. Even they boldly say sarkari mehkama ha.

I don't want to even think about what hell I have been though. The staff there is lazy. And works slowly slowly. You just can't even ask them as most of them even are too busy sometimes. In this scorching heat no one will even bother to go at that stupid place.
