You can use 17track to track the location. It queries both the source country and the destination country.
If you use shipping that does not provide tracking number of the format pakpost uses then you can say bye bye to your package. This includes companies like yanwen etc.
China air registered mail gives you tracking but it is not updated till your home. Only till IMO or the customs (if it goes to the customs). Not updated after that.
Although I have not ordered using DHL, FEDEX etc myself. I am under the impression that such packages will be scrutinized more by the customs. Expensive shipping = expensive item = money for customs.
Once I got an invitation card by fedex and they charged me 500 which included charges like CAA fee, godown charges, customs duty(on an invitation card!!). So unless it is a valuable item I would not use fedex.
Photo here is of post sent using EMS. It has tracking till home but is still handled by pak post instead of DHL or FEDEX.
