In terms of reliability both require a top to bottom one time Maintanance once you buy it as both being 20 years old, after that you can expect something to be reliable,economical concern is what you drive daily so question will be what engine it'll originally be having when you buy it. Lastly spares availability than Toyota has edge k it's parts are more conveniently available than a Pajero and for the obvious reason Pajero parts are expensive.
But nothing can beat a proper maintained Pajero in terms of comfort .
