It looks neat considering its age. It has a non intercooled turbo engine so there is not a problem with power due to lack of turbo. Having said that, it may be kept in mind that although 4d56 is a very robust engine which takes a lot of beating without breaking a sweat, but it is underpowered for a long wheel base variant. This aspect comes into play when driving on motorway etc as you will not be able to cruise over 100 kmph max. Also on steep climbs like Babusar, you will feel lack of power which can be compensated by engaging 4x4 Low although it is not recommended for tarmac. Still does the job.
You should replace all drive belts and both timing belts, all fluids (Engine, Gear, Transfer Case and differentials). In addition, get it greased from the 8 or so greasing points. Get the cooling system flushed, replace the T-stat valve and pour good quality coolant. One thing that I would go for immediately is to get the valve clearance done as per manual. The mechanic will try to enforce his choice of clearance parameters but insist on setting to the recommended clearance which is mentioned in a sticker under the hood.
Having said all this, remember it is a 30+ years old vehicle so it will require continuous monitoring and maintenance whenever required. If taken proper care, it will take you anywhere you want.
Happy motoring!
