@sohaib : i have d5000 and i like it a lot , have also used the 550 , but i prefer d5000 .

I checked out your creations ; some of them are truely fantastic and flawlessly sharp !
Kindly tell me whether the D5000 has the GUIDE mode which the D3100 has ?

well you will only use the guide mode for a max a month then you will not need it , trust me .

for starters there are 19 scene modes in d5000 which you can use .which are obviously predefined values.

the only edge i see is the expeed 2 processor and the high iso , but these are also present in the d5100 and the d7000 but all 3 have different Prices , so an image taken from the d7000 even with same processor and same iso would be better than the one taken with d3100 . (you will get what your paying for )

to me if i will ever upgrade it would be the d7000.
