Anyone using lens with f/2.8 or /w bigger aperture? How much difference it can bring comparing to typical kit lenses (f/3.5-5.6)?

My primary subjects are growing kids and most of my photos are indoors!

I have both the kit lens with 3.5-5.6 and 50mm f1.8 for Canon.

50mm@1.8 gives me 6-7 stops advantage in same light situation as compared to my kit lens at 3.5. The shots which i can only take at 1/5sec handheld with kit lens (IS off) are possible with 50mm at 1/20 or 1/25sec (50mm has no IS).

50mm is excellent for indoor and kids in particular as i bought this lens for the sole purpose of taking shots of my kids

I bought mine 50mm for Canon in Feb 2011 for Rs. 9,600 but that was wholesale rate. Recently, Zaeem89 has purchased the same for Canon and he may be able to confirm the latest retail rates.

Thanks guys for the info...I have planned for 600D /w 18-135 kit; primarilly because it comes boxed with this kit and D5100 comes with 18-55. One can get D5100 with other lens; there can be question marks on such deals...especially reading comments on "Flickr Discussion" (A)

I will Insha-Allah get 50/1.8 lens as well. These things become out of my original 75k budget; so now waiting for "salary day"

And yes f1.4 is for Rs 26000.

Thanks for the appreciation, these pictures were taken at F2.2, at 1.8 the DoF is so thin its almost impossible to take a picture with decent focus.

18-135mm is very nice general purpose zoom + travel lens.

I revived this today...great memories...
Its Olympus OM1; can I get the stuff for such an old SLR. I need the leather cover and lens cover atleast...Flashgun; not important; but if they are cheap for such an old camera then why not!

guys im planning to buy an entry level DSLR...please suggest a good canon in my range which is 45-50k (canon 1000d is what suits me but is it worth buying?) thanx...also is it wise to get a used camera (from a reliable person i know)??
