Project # 3, Suzuki Alto

Hello people, hope everyone is doing good.

Been almost 3 years since I completed my last project car.

We had a Alto 2011 in family which was very much neglected. Got my hands on it around last month and trying to fix it step by step.

This is my first carburetor car. Altho i learned to drive on a Mehran and the first car i drove was a Khyber.

Never ever maintained Carburetor cars.

Initial plan was to fix it and make her running if viable swap 660cc Engine and Transmission.

Initial findings.

• The car starts on half self
• Self Starter makes noise
• All wheel bearings are cooked.
• Too much carbon on Spark plugs
• Carburetor seems cooked
• With its age the car has very less miles on it.
• Also I have been told to keep checking radiator water

Dust everywhere, probably hasn't been washed in last one year

You can buy new parts for it. Cheap too, you can easily rebuild this car.

Yes saman is very much sasta.

Initially what I can see is

• Wheel bearings
• Engine foundations

Some bearing inside the engine room or the water body bearing.

Make it running and then decide later steps.

Rebuild the carb, if you have a specialist, they can make it like new

I think you should keep the car stock, it won't be worth the hassle to change the engine/transmission. With the car's mileage, I think the carburetor only requires some servicing/cleaning and should be good.

K6a swap is a good option if you want to but keep the original engine transmission for resale,

Updates for today,

Carburetor was rebuilt / Serviced, Too much carbon in the engine. Black plugs, black engine oil.

• Engine Mounts 3 Engine + 1 Gear
• Tappet cover seal
• Spark plugs
• Gear Shifter kit
• Carburetor rebuilt
• New Engine oil which turned black foran se. I am thinking to do a engine flush not sure if thoose work.

The mechanic suggested to use "khula teil" to flush it rather then buying engine Flush.

Awesome work, it's important to start with the mechanical essentials.
Regarding engine flush, I don't think you would reap any benefits from this. In fact you may dislodge sludge and debris stuck in places within the engine that could be catastrophic. Even the crank main seals could leak if they're worn and the sludge might be helping maintain the seal.
I think using good quality fully synthetic oil and changing early (2000-3000km) once or twice will be more helpful and less aggressive. Modern oils have detergents in them which work over time. The new oil you poured turned black because it broke down and suspended a lot of the old gunk in there. Change it early along with oil filter. Your mechanic is partially correct about using khula tail instead of engine flush but you'll need to ensure the quality of that khula tail.
I think the next important thing to do would be flushing and bleeding of brakes.

The mechanic suggested the same from the brake, He says bleeding this cars brake usually kills the brake booster.

Brake oil looks okay for now.

Gear has 0 oil in it. Gear shifter seal is leaked.

Yes, The radiator cap isn't closed properly but is tight. (Not airtight). Probably wrong configuration on cap.

Radiator seems chocked, No thermostat, Direct fan. Temperature needle almost remains at half. Was told to check radiator water before driving.

For now my main concern is gari start hokei seedi chalei.

Then start with more technical stuff.

Since the car is at the work shop

Took out the meter for service and went to plaza for a little shopping.

• Meter service and lights change
• New head lights (earlier i decided to clean the ones it had but thoose are also desi repaired lights)
• Wheel caps
• One rear right (rear left)
• Diggi separator / Stupnie cover
• Mud flaps (Keechar matts)
• Missing blank buttons from the dashboard.
• Diggi shock absorbers
• New set of wipers
• Windscreen Washer noozle
• Water washer motor

Some other small stuff can't recall

The car is being done at around DHA phase 1 and 2

I think he meant the brakes master cylinder. Usually we use the method of pumping the brake pedal to force the brake fluid through the brake lines. While doing so the pedal is depressed until it touches the floor and this can damaged the seals in the master cylinder causing them to leak and you loose pressure on the brakes. I've yet to hear anyone damaging the brake booster like this.
A safer approach to flush is that you first suck out all the old brake oil in the master cylinder reservoir and then use the gravity method to bleed the brakes or better, make/purchase a contraption that can suck the fluid out from the bleed screws.
If the fluid is even slightly dark in the reservoir then it should be changed as preventive maintenance. Or if you know it hasn't been changed for 40k kilometers or more. Remember brake fluid is hygroscopic and the real damage is being done by the water it absorbs which then damages system internally by causing rust.

Yes the master cylinder ** you are right.

I will recheck on this. And get it flushed.

40,000 km i think it hasn't been touched in the entire life of this car ie 118,000 kms and 13 years.

Doing what ever i can so can do mechanical and cosmetic sath sath.

The car came back last night.

Suspension seems perfect or atleast not noises. The car has very bad bearing sound probably water pump is cooked too much sound.

With the carburetor redone, Gari (water throwing engine) wali hogai hai.

Driving it for a day or 2 and then goes back to the work shop.

Not a wise idea to drive with an excessively noisy bearing. It can seize and break
