Dear Friends,

Ive recently bought an army auctioned RKR and is in the process of its restoration. It would be second 4x4 project as the earlier one was that of a M38A1 which me and my younger bro azkhan@pw undertook in 2008. We recently sold the M38A1 which gave us 04 years of extreme offroading service.
We?€™re really grateful to Aamir Malik Bhai, the captain of the IJC for his uninterrupted support in the arrangement of parts and overall guidance.

Traditionally, after the 40 Series Land Cruisers, the 70 Series rigs (successors to the 40s) are the "Land Cruiser-est" amongst all of Toyota's offerings. The real workhorses amongst all of the off-roaders built by the Japanese. So, this is a terrific platform to start with! The RKR platform will enable you to do a multitude of things...in terms of engines, wheels, trim levels, suspension, diffs and axles, ride height, and stance etc.

This promises to be a wonderful project. Best of luck...and it's certain that I'll be a very frequent visitor to this page!

thanks sir for your wishes. Ill be looking forward for your guidance. For the time being, illl be going for all stock, 33 MTs, Japanese leaf springs, will go for rancho shocks if i get hold of them, a decent paint job and interior restoration.

Body wise, the vehicle was in gud nick with some rust at the foot boards and windshield as evident in the pics.

Our first priority was to get the mechanicals settled. So the engine was tested for compression which with the blessings of ALLAH was gud, however, a head gaskit leak was detected. Subsequently, the head was opened /rebuilt and the gasket was replaced.

Taimoor bhai.. i would recommend a full general overhaul of the engine.. half of it is already open.. pull down the sump and check the crank/pieces etc... if the cylinders and pistons are okay.. just install new ringset.. check oil pump

a little effort & time spent now will make the 3F motor reliable.. i dont trust 2F/3F engines maintained by Faujis

Akif bhai, our mechanic made sure that the block and internals were in perfect condition.

Carburetor was up next and all the discussions of PW regarding the ever troublesome carbs of 2f and 3f were on back of our minds. The carb was dismantled and on inspection one of the butterflies was stuck and other had quite a lot of play. So the butterfly assembly went to the expert in Sutan da khooo. The old gentlemen did take some 2 odd days for fixing it but did a great job.

Having luck on our side, we got a Japanese 3F car rebuilt kit from Aamir bhai, the rebuilt kit was instrumental in getting the carb back to work. Thanks to ALLAH, the carb is working perfectly without any missing.

However, given the reputation of 3f carbs, there is always a "Weham" that its going to start missing anytime

Another thing I want to ask from the gurus here is about the feasibility of CNG on the 3F engine. Anyone tried its luck with CNG? The reason im inclined towards CNG is that the rigs's going to be my daily driven and my daily running is around 50km which i wont be able to afford on petrol.

I would appreciate any feed back on the performance and average on CNG.

Another option will be LPG as ive a brand new kit lying with me. ANy thoughts on that will be appreciated.

I would advise getting in touch with Noman8ff since he owned a Cruiser with stock 3F engine and had 2 CNG cylinders attached. I am sure he will be a valuable source of info for you in this regard.
