I'am going to put a resonator in between. I don't want it to drone as on the highway that will be very tiring and that goes against the purpose of this car. I've head a few 3" exhausts and maybe due to bad resonator placement or cheap mufflers, I got a headache just on a short trip in the city.

I'am going with the 2.5" as I think that may be quiet and not annoying in the city or when cruising on the motorway, and will sound good, not loud, but good when give it some taps.

2.5" will choke it.get a 3" pipe ,a good decent free flow resonator of same size and a chambered muffler of same 3" internal diameter and ull be good to go.1jzgte only drone when u have done a very very bad job at exhaust making.

We'll see if it gets choked. Meanwhile I've already ordered a 5zigen 2.5 inch muffler and will get the piping done soon. I'm currently looking for the original cressida shift lever with the surround bezel. The current Mark II one is too high. Anyone know where I can find it?

Got the exhaust done. There is quite a bit of drone below 2000 rpm, which I believe will be due to the mid muffler and the rear ones being straight through. I'am going to get the mid one baffled which should reduce some noise and drone.

Does the black smoke on revs and on starts indicate that it's running rich or is there something else wrong?

Straight as in a mesh throughway from one end to the other? You could start by having the middle resonator packed with glass wool, steel wool or fiberglass. Packing it would reduce the exhaust note as well.

About the black smoke, the JZs do run slightly rich but let it run for some time so that the ecu completes its learning process. The smoke at the moment doesnt seem to be too much and might clear in a little while. Leaking injectors also cause black smoke while starting up..

The middle resonator has a straight pipe from the inlet to the outlet. There is a mesh on the outer surface of the pipe.

Today I'll be going on some test runs. I read that on the 1UZ resetting ecu and running it in 3rd gear will give a good AFR. Will do that with the 1j as well or is there a better way to make the Ecu learn about the engine?

Sorry for not posting in a long while.

The phase 1 of this project is continuing. We got a complete rear solid axle fitted with a 3.909 ratio lsd. This one also has drum brakes but these are bigger than the stock ones. Unfortunately one of the drums is cracked so there is quite a bit of vibration under braking. Alongside the center bearing of the driveshaft has also been replaced.

Intercooler piping has been done in 2.5" stainless steel. The front already had allocated slots for the intercooler piping. We drilled them out and passed the piping from there.

We need to get the exhaust properly tuned as it is quite a bit of drone at idle and in city driving. At higher rpms it quiets down. I need to get the drone eliminated.

I've also been ordering parts to put in the Cressida. The list included timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley, front and rear main oil seals, cam seals, air flow meter, VVTi solenoid and its oil filter for the 1jz. Front and rear bushes, tie rods, z-links, steering rack bushes, parking and tail lights, hood to radiator and headlight seals, trunk cable drive shaft center bearing, fuel tank seal and differential seals. Brake pads and brake shoes will be coming in the next order hopefully.

So after 9 months and 28 days of getting the engine, the stage 1 of project blue is finally complete.....for now. It has been a roller coaster ride for us as it was our first ever project car. From sorting out the wiring from the new harness and getting the mechanical parts to work properly has been a pain but also joyful and intuitive. All in all it has been a great experience working on this car and I've learned alot from it. It still has a few minor details that I want to be sorted out but I'm pretty happy with how the car came out to be.

Stage 2 of the project is complete body work and paint work. This will be done next summer in the dry months. In the meanwhile we'll be looking out for good paint shops.

Stage 3 will be interior upgrades, etc. This will include electric seats, electronic fold-able mirrors. Upgraded audio system, just enough to satisfy my needs. Black ash wood grain trim that cam in the jdm models and so on.

Last but not least, I would like to give a huge shout out to my father without whom this wouldn't be possible. It was his support, time and effort that brought sweetness to this fruit.

Some more stuff has arrived.

I got some jdm pioneer carrozzeria speakers couple of months back.,
4" TS-J100A for the front.
6.5" Ts-E1676 for the rear deck.

a/d/s mx460 4ch amp along with streetwires cables and an alpine 117 to replace the stock stereo. The speakers I have already put in the car and they are a big upgrade to the old ones.

So another parts shipment arrived from japan yesterday. These are for the stage 3 of the project in which we spec up the interior of the car, and bring it back to its former glory,

We got a complete center console pane from a JDM Mark II along with the steering panel. It has the slide out climate control, some better functioning ashtray and its in the blash ash wood trim. This will look quite different from the standard black panels that the cressida's got.

We also got an automatic pedal set.

Our wiper washer bottle got cracked so got that too.

Got some bumper indicators too but unfortunately the wrong ones arrived. So these are up for grabs,

Lastly we also got a JZX100 speedometer that we'll be putting in.

Another shipment is being compiled and that will be arriving soon

Yes, I have the japanese service CD for the x80 and x100 series. It contains all the wiring diagrams for this car along with documentation of their internals. Unfortunetely they're all in japanese, but I use google to translate them. We used these to wire up the climate control panel currently installed

I got the parts from Yahoo auctions using a proxy bidding service in japan. They bid on the auction on my behalf, get them in their warehouse and then ship them here.
