So the last shipment has arrived from Japan. All of the items ordered are for stage 3 of the project which is currently under way.

Stage 2 has been completed. She has been repainted in her original Dark Blue Metallic. Final compounding is left.

Anyway the following parts have arrived:

Paddle shifters from a Subary Legacy Outback:

Center Console:

Cluster Surround Panels:

Key set from a Cresta:

Inner dock lock bezels:

Folding door mirrors along with ECU and switch, we installed these immediately (mirror still to be attached):

A set of JDM parking lights along with fender lights (installed these too):

and Finally got some sweet speakers:

We're in the process of installing the JZX100 cluster, will update when that is done. We also got the original shift lever and that will be installed tomorrow.

So we're in the process of getting the car back together, We're having to work our way in figuring out how to adapt the Push-type climate control ECU's to the slide out control panel. Our main issue being the system amplifier of the system.

Anyhow we've put back the carpet after using up some two cans of carpet cleaner and kilos of dust later. Still its not as clean as I had hoped. We also cleaned out the door panel upholstery and put in the new window switches. The old ones got cracked and had worn off.

We also got some STP gold sound deadening sheets along with their SPL08 sound insulation. Covered the outer skin of all 4 doors and the inside hood. Took about 3 and a half sheets.
We used the insulating pads to cover up chunks of the floor.

Also got around on making a custom mounting board for the subwoofers. Put them behind the rear seat so that there is minimal boot space intrusion.

Dear OP, great job! Went through all the post and ended up learning quite a bit about the jzs 171 engine along with all the issues you have had to deal with.

I am working on a similar project with the JZS 171 (auto), except I have put it in a 1968 Opel Rekord Coupe C. Using the original ECU, we have been successful in starting the engine, but over the weekend, the engine started running very rich. I think the AFM is blown and we are trying to source a new one locally. If by any chance anybody has a lead on how to procure it locally or from abroad, please let me know. We feel the ETCS-i is functioning properly, although it was a bitch to wire.

The second issue my guy says is that the we will have to source the original crown athlete V speedometer since that is the only way for automatic gear shift and the OD to kick in. It would be much appreciated if bothers on this forum could shed some light on this. Obviously installing the crown speedo will take away from the aesthetics of the Opel. if there is way around it, i would be greatful!

I do not mind the intrusion, you are welcome to post your problems and I'll be happy to help in the best way I can.

Firstly check your vacuum lines for any leaks on the intake side and the turbo side. Especially the brake booster vacuum line. This one, if leaked, can cause the engine to run very poorly. Lastly check your wiring to the AFM. If it all checks out then the AFM may be faulty. I still haven't gotten mine to run at a perfect A/F ratio as my air filter setup isn't passing through straight air.

The ECU in this uses one speedometer sensor on the gearbox. If your engine to ECU harness is uncut then don't mess with it. The sensor wires are shielded and if the signal is interfered it will cause the ECU to go haywire on shifting. You don't need a crown speedometer for it to shift. I needs a proper, isolated speed signal directly from the sensor. The ECU pins SP+ and SP- are of the speed sensor. These are on the B3 connector of the ECU (smaller middle one).

Thanks for the reply. We have checked all vacuum lines and all are intact and as far as we know, wiring to AFM is ok as well since it was running fine before the weekend. AFM could have blown perhaps because we were testing without air cleaner pipe filter kit. Looking for an AFM now, any leads would be welcome!

The speedo/ gear shift issue is such that the original speedometer on the Rekord is analog. As far as I have been told, reading the speed signal for smooth gear shift requires digital speedometer or a signal converter, that essentially takes sp2 signal and alters its frequency and amplitude to suit an analog cluster.
Thoughts, suggestions are welcome!

You do not need a speedometer for it to shift smoothly. A speedometer is only there to tell you what speed you're going.

For it to shift smoothly, it needs a proper signal from the speed sensor directly. The JZS171 speedometer uses the ABS speed signal. The SP2+/- signals are purely for the ECU. I'm in the process of making a converter that converts the SP2 signal to a 4 pulse per revolution square wave signal. I don't know what signal the Rekord cluster needs.

As for the AFM, I ordered a new one from sharjah along with other parts for my car. Couldn't find it here.

So after a long time the project has finally reached its completion Alhamdullilah.
Just a couple of minor details left to sort out. Paddle shifters and a couple of chrome trims are still left to be installed, but other than that I'm pretty satisfied with what the end result is.

Thank you for the kind words. It was always a treat to drive but now I treasure it even more. With the new bushes, the suspension has never felt better. It just hugs the road.

As for the exhaust we changed out the rear muffler to a silent one. Added another one in the middle and now she's silent. Just a hint of road noise now.
